Are userdefined datatypes useful?

  • Ofcourse, I understand the benefits of a single definition used throughout your database. But now your UDDT changes... You have to drop every instance of the UDDT, change it, and then re-attach it to every previously dropped attribute definition. If a UDDT is used many times, this can be a hazzle.

Does anybodey know of an efficient way to automaticaly change a UDDT and have this changed UDDT re-attached? I know, I could try&write such a script, but I'm hoping somebody has already done this...

  • No script and I've never really felt the need to use them. Don't see them as that useful and changes occur way more often than I see benefits.

  • Remi pointed me to this discussion about UDDTs about a week ago.
