Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Yup: I escalated last night with the INETA board of directors, and the e-mail thread eventually wound up in the hands of one of the INETA India people and some MSDN person. Shortly thereafter the guy who runs the site said he's taking it down for two days to review the content. We'll see how much of it disappears... I'll certainly be checking back on Monday and doing more spot checks. I have absolutely no faith in this guy's humanity at this point

Roy, I don't believe you personally have anything to worry about in this community.

Roy, I agree. Nothing to do about you, but I do understand how you feel about it. I guess it's one of those things where a few bad people give all a bad name, no matter how undeserved it is for the others.

Good. This type of thing can reflect badly on those organizations.

I'm not so sure... the site owner sure seemed to be pretty quick to remove articles when they were pointed out to him. His actions seem to me that he's doing the right thing. Let's not be quick to associate him with the folks that were actually submitting the stuff as their own. I'm willing to do the "trust, but verify" bit with him.

But as for those "authors", well, I like that shoveling manure idea.

I've got Japanese Knotweed in the garden and no weed is worse 🙁

The extra strength Roundup 3000 from the local farmers supply store is now winning but it's the fifth year of applying and there's still new shoots popping up.

The only other cure I've heard for jap knotweed is to move house!

There's a long-term solution to that fun plant being researched in the UK http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8557877.stm

I learn something new every day on these forums... I had never heard of Japaneese knot weed. That's one tough weed.

I have plenty of manure around here. And I can tell pretty loud, according to my kids.

  • Good job, everyone on the plagiarizer. I saw the email late last night from Brad as I was watching a movie with my wife and (wisely) declined to open the laptop.

What gets me is would anyone, Indian or not, talk to you at some event like a TechEd or UG meeting and say "Hey, I wrote this great article on CROSS APPLY that would solve your problem. Go to xxx.co.in to see it"?

I doubt it. If they would, how would they square that with anything other than bald-faced lying? It's one thing to use someone else's work privately. But there is not ethical or moral defense against putting things back out there under your own name. Stunning to me that someone can sleep at night.

Unless they're just getting paid for it and don't care about anything but the cash collected from the article. The guy that plagiarized my book was just copying books he thought he could get away with for the cash. He wasn't trying to build a reputation or anything.

Tough decision. Open up laptop, get hit upside the head with nearest hard object. Or stay cuddled up on couch with your wife.... tough decision indeed! :w00t:

I don't think they would... because they didn't write the article, and they don't really know what's in it, and they don't know if it even pertains to the problem. They probably don't even know what to do about someone's problem.

Unless they're just all about blowing smoke, then they would have an answer like that for everything.

I think they would point to the article but not understand what they were pointing to. I had a boss like this a few years back. He was a habitual liar. He was really good at "story telling". He was a great presenter and has presented at a lot of CIO/CTO type of conferences. He knows buzz words and can be very motivational. He also He's fooled a lot of people and is on the board of several corporations. As a CIO/CTO He normally only stays at a company for 9 to 18 months before he's completely found out and moves on. As a board member they never get rid of him. Because he's had some prestigious appointments, written some artices (which were probably written by people working for him, I know I wrote one.), Made some great presentations, and because he's a unique character he's made some pretty strong connections. Truth be told, people that have worked for him can attest, while you're working for hiim you always wonder when people in white jackets will come to take him away.
