My problem wasn't the CTE, it was the unwillingness of the OP to post anything, which is what prompted my trip to the TitD. (I used the wrong 4la earlier, Tent in the Desert)

I clicked Lynn's name, opened "All User's Posts" and opened the discussion for the first one that mentioned DDL. Didn't need to know it involved a CTE. Found the discussion easily that way.

That's cheating:Whistling:
I actually happened across it at about the same time Lynn posted the TITD.

Oddity in the forums. I just noticed that I lost 27 points today. Am curious where they could have gone.
SSC has started subtracting points for bad jokes and other lousy posts. :hehe:

Goggle already has them anyway.

But on the plus side it did point me to the excellent explanation of 'FOR XML PATH' by Barry.
I trawl this site for such nuggets.

I realize many run SQL Server using a case insensitive collation, but really, your code should be consistant. I'm sorry, but roleID and RoleID aren't the same. That's why I write all system tables in lower case as well. We have systems that run using case insensitive collations and others that run using case sensitive collations. Makes things interesting, but forces us to be consistant so that code written on one system will also run on another.
We've got an address book table on the AS400 where they used all Upper for years. Then someone designed an integration for employees using mixed case. Now we both in the same table, and also mixed and upper within the same type. So I just use a lot of UPPER functions.....
Why they couldn't have left well enough alone and done the integration using upper is beyond me. Sure made for a lot of confusion for the users with their ad hoc query tools.

Yes, but this is the first time I've seen a govt agency (openly) state they are storing them. 1000 years from now, someone will think we're morons, and will use it as proof of evolution :hehe:
