Looking at the username, I found this on Google: www.lsbu.ac.uk. It looks like they do use MSC as an abbreviation for one of their degrees.

We should all email each of the instructors there and include the link to the post asking if this is their material. 😛

@Tammy --SSC is an awesome site. Don't worry about being a "newb". There isn't a person out there who hasn't been a "newb" at one point. SQL Server is now broad enough that many of us who have been doing this a long time are "newbs" in certain areas that we haven't had the chance to deal with yet.
This is so true. Heck, it wasn't too long ago that one of the most experienced, top-notch T-SQL persons I've ever had the pleasure to become acquainted with from here proclaimed himself to be an "extreme newby" in SSIS.

Just had a guy today who posted a whole exam, which he says "a friend needs for his masters program".
Where is that one? I think it might be fun - not to answer - to evaluate (insert devil emoticon).
Here.
Wonder what university the degree is from.
I wonder if it's from any. If there's a university where those are masters level questions (as opposed to first semester undergrad questions) it should have caused a scandal that would have hit the headlines. (If it really is a masters course at a university, it would be nice to find out which and blow the whistle.)

I know I will probably get good answers from other people on the forums, but I would really appreciate reading your thoughts on this one.
What irritates me is that I did some tests (not just the one I posted) and turns out that MERGE join seems to be less CPU-intensive: I reported this to the Oracle DBA and he just smiled and ignored me.
I would really love to bang his head on the desk...

Yes, LSBU have two MSc programs that include a datbase module. MSc in Enterprise Computing http://prospectus.lsbu.ac.uk/courses/course.php?CourseID=5734 (which is a taught MSc requiring a previous degree in a relevant subject, and is supposed to prepare a student for research in IT, so probably it's appropriate to call it a masters degree) and MSc in Information Technology http://prospectus.lsbu.ac.uk/courses/course.php?CourseID=5754 which requires no previous knowledge of computing or IT and is a one year introduction to IT for people with degrees in other subjects (calling this sort of introductory study a Masters is wrong, in my view, but has become fashionable).
The place has quite a good reputation, and seems to teach its students something: the Times rated universities by graduate starting salaries lastyear and lsbu came sixth. It was a polytechnic until 1992, when it became a university in the great renaming of tertiary education institutions in England and Wales.
I find it hard to believe that the question posted is part of a masters course, but I guess it could be course-work in the course that is an introduction to IT for non-IT people rather than a real masters degree.

Thanks for all the replies!I am genuinely grateful for the help I've received so far, and I look forward to the point where I can take what I've learned and help other newbies in this forum.
Even if it takes months and months, I plan on contributing as much as I can when I've learned enough to give a helpful response.
Thanks again!
Tammy 😀
Good to have you. Remember, the expert is the person that's one page ahead of you in the book. We're all new at something and there is always more to learn. It sometimes feels like that's all I do all day long.

If you want to do that the appropriate emails are probably dilip@lsbu.ac.uk (Professor Dilip Patel - that's full professor as this is UK, associate and assistant professors are called something different) who is the course contact for the MSc in Information Technology and ubakang@lsbu.ac.uk (Mr George Ubakanma) who is the course contact for the MSc in Enterprise Computing.

At least I found SSC. Learned more about SQL and about how to learn and act professionally than I am either in school or at work.(Plus, I get to learn about swords, horse manure, sentient forums, slingshots ....too many things to name...)
Dear Experts -
A friend of mine has an exam and job interview interview coming up soon.
I got a copy of the exam ahead of time, and do not understand the questions about DBCC Timewarp and pork chop launchers.
Plz Help ASAP - this is an emergency.
TIA,
;-):hehe:
Seriously - lots or great things to explore and learn from on this site. Some great minds willing to teach someone who wants to learn. A newbie who reads what they are pointed to, gives all the suggested sample info, can get a lot of quality help.
Thanks,
Greg E
lol Greg, I learn from those folks too, sometimes it's good to have an example of what *not* to do.

She's doing fine. We've exchanged email a bit. She's busy working on her masters thesis. We'll only see her around intermittently. I've seen her on twitter a few times too. She's just crazy busy right now.

I guess that we can safely assume that it wasn't her that posted those exam questions for their Master's level DB course? 😀
