The ability to raise kids is akin to the ability to write high performing tsql - thus the Thread is an excellent source for how to raise your children.Oh good, so I should just call Jeff to raise my kids. Or have a party line - "Urgent assistance needed dears, potty training not going well...exprts only plz" 😛

I don't want high performance children. Heck, I need something to hold over them! They can be high performing adults, when I will need them to take care of me 🙂

Ah yes the circle of life. Raise children from diapers to successful adults. Then they turn around and raise you from successful adult to diapers.
Not a day I am looking forward to. Except having them pay the bills, buy the groceries and all of that fun stuff.

Yeah, the "high performance children" thing isn't a mature technology anyway....

Can't disagree about the mature technology - but my children always have their engines revved from pre-dawn to post dusk.

Yeah, kids are pretty easy to overclock. The water-based cooling system drains pretty easily, sometimes when you least expect it, but it usually gets better over time, and refilling it usually isn't that big a deal.

My experience:
Company sales are down, freeze on spending and I lost 3 team members to downsizing.
Bottom line, I'm trying to do it all myself. We still need to provide our Sales Rep base with upgrades, tools, reporting. So the only option is to learn all of these programs we have/use, in order to maintain and/or build the applicable databases /applications.
I'm not a DBA, so I'm self teaching by throwing myself into books, the programs, and forums like these. I work 60+ hours a week, wearing multiple hats at one company, I don't have time to go back to school for DBA. I need this job, and right now because of my willingness, they need me too.
Do my questions fall within what you would characterize as "worse" than ususal, I'd say "Probably". But its sink or swim for me in this job and I've got no choice but to ask the questions that may seem beginner, annoying, obvious, or even ridiculous at times.
I appreciate all of the help I've received thus far.
Tammy

First, don't worry. Second, don't worry. You're doing fine so far. If you are new to SSC, may I suggest that you read the first two articles I reference in my signature block. The guidance there will help you with most of your questions, with the exception at this time being the one about building a portal.

Tammy,
We aren't typically annoyed by beginner questions. Even silly ones, but what does get to be "worse" in our minds is the people that don't make an effort. Someone that asks "what's new in SQL Server 2008" without looking. Or the people that ask "how do I sum the data in a column?" without any more effort.
Typing the former into Google takes you to the MSDN page in BOL. The second one, if you showed some code or said what you've tried or don't understand, and we're happy to help.
The "worse-ness" comes from people being unwilling to try and help themselves and asking us to do their work for them.

Welcome to the community.
This thread has morphed numerous times. The context of the thread was designed around questions that provided little to no detail or people getting belligerent. This thread is more of a self-help therapy :-D. You will have no problems with context of the thread so long as you provide detail, samples, and can help us help you. People that don't help themselves will find that getting a good answer becomes considerably more difficult.
We also use this thread to ask others for assistance with a particular issue.

Definitely feel for you! It's rough when you have to do all that.
As others have mentioned, but I'll chime in anway, don't worry about "newb" questions. Those aren't the problem. The problem is questions that are obviously homework, or from an interview, that kind of thing. Just had a guy today who posted a whole exam, which he says "a friend needs for his masters program". I don't mind helping someone on homework, but I do mind being asked to post answers to an exam. Even on the homework, I want to see what they've done so far, and what exactly they need help with, not a request that adds up to "do my homework for me". And asking for answers to interview questions is just dishonest, unless they're along the lines of, "I flubbed an interview question, and I don't know where to look for a good answer. Can anyone refer me to a good source of data on X?"
So, what you're doing definitely doesn't fit the spirit of the original question here. Quite the opposite.
As for the current discussion, it appears to be a cross between welcoming a friend back from vacation, Terminator references (those are common in this discussion), and some humor about raising kids. Give it a few posts, and the subject will have changed again, probably to something completely different. Welcome to the water cooler of this site!

Where is that one? I think it might be fun - not to answer - to evaluate (insert devil emoticon).

Thanks Lynn.
I have to agree with the others in that thread - I don't see the relevance to a Masters Degree and I don't see why the person would need somebody else to do it all for him.
