Lynn only needs 4 more posts for 10,000 posts (not overall pts).CountDown on?
Got the tent ready for the party? D'you sweep out all the hippo droppings?
Nah, the hippo is potty trained.
Did you do the hippo potty training?
hippo potty's a must 😀
Is that like DBCC TimeWarp'd hampster poo?

Oh cool, tossed under another bus. Thanks Alvin. What year? (My birthday was yesterday, so I'm curious as to what the actual age difference is.) If you'd rather not say, then don't.
47, three more years before I'm legally dead.
I take exception to this remark, I'm not dead yet!! 😉
Are you sure?
Actually, yes. I am still quite able to eat my favorite spicy foods without getting heartburn or indigestion. A sure sign, in my opinion, that I'm still alive! :w00t: (But that doesn't mean I don't feel older than I really am at times. 😛 )
All you young whipper snappers .... hope you last as long if not longer than myself ... (born April 18, 1932) .. no major aches, no major pains, one major surgery -- open heart, still able to rise and shine each morning. So you all plan to keep on plugging away
congratulations - keep on plugging away
1932 - I can't even get back that far using all my fingers and toes!
Although it's close....

You know ..... If the right "outsider" read the Thread, some of us might end up with free room and board for the rest of our lives, wall padding included. 😀 hmmm :w00t:
What? You don't have wall padding, yet? It's so comforting...

Anybody else see a problem with this statement?DECLARE @selectDate DATETIME = getdate()-365
Offensive. Not just because it does not work with any of the new date/time types in 2008 either.
In fact it is as bad as DATEADD(DAY, DATEDIFF(DAY, 0, CURRENT_TIMESTAMP), 0).
And let us not forget the epic SELECT CONVERT(DATETIME, FLOOR(CONVERT(FLOAT, CURRENT_TIMESTAMP))).
Current favourite date-related expression: SELECT {fn CURRENT_DATE()}, which is an obscure way to write CONVERT(varchar(10),getdate(),23)). It is my favourite not because it is good (it is not), but because it is obscure and style 23 is undocumented :w00t:

I hate to ruin the good mood, but could anyone keen on bashing their head against a wall for a coupl hours follow up on this. Is midnight (almost) here. From our usual friend...[/url]
I am busy elsewhere, trying to convince him that min and max memory settings do work on 64-bit SQL Server. :doze:
My second run-in with him this week. First time I got a correction and an apology, think it was a one-off.

Amazing isn't it? Another golden nugget of wisdom...
When I asked him why he thought that, he responded with something about AWE only being available on 32-bit. *sigh*
I think he has been confused by something he read without truly understanding it.
I am quite happy to educate him on the subject, it just frustrates me when people post authoritative-sounding statements that are just plain wrong...!

I feel another blog rant coming.
Other thing that frustrates me, along the same lines, is people insisting that a specific feature is deprecated when it's not.

See if you can include that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority link. Very cool.

Heh. Like CONVERT, DBCC SQLPERF, and COALESCE? I think I have read threads claiming all those are deprecated recently...
The thing that bothers me most is getting distracted by dealing with the incorrect claims rather than getting on with answering the OP.
Ah well.

I think that's a different rant. The thread I think you're referring to just had me seeing red that day.

I've seen someone say that all DBCC statements are deprecated. I've seen ISNULL, Select into and a few others.
No idea why. It's not as if it's hard to tell, from BoL alone, if a specific feature is deprecated in a specific version.

sorry Alvin, have to agree with Gail, jarjar has to be the most annoying character ever created in any film. Made my flesh crawl.Always amazed me how it got past the censors.
I am one of the few that actually likes JarJar.
Yes, and you should immediately apologize and then seek counseling.
