Well, my back surgery is tomorrow (it got moved up). They've been putting me through medication withdrawal the last two weeks in preparation, so apologies if I've been overly cranky or dense lately (at least a couple of times for both)... 🙂
Late to the game, but best of luck Barry. Talk to you soon.

Hope it goes well and solves the issues you've been having over the last year, that I'm aware of anyone. Will pray that it goes well and without any complications.

Congratulations Jeff, and Paul... and Jason.... and everyone else deserving of congratulations.
I am 600 posts behind on The Thread. Does anyone have the parms for DBCC TIMEWARP to remedy that?

Ok, it's Friday and I'm getting tired.Just got an email from Apple saying "iPad is coming ...."
I clicked <Reply> SO? <Send>
😎
Ok, so painting a flame target on myself, but thinking of buying one for wifey. She really just wants something that will work well to let her browse the net/check email, and for the price, it doesn't look so bad. Light, small, but big enough to view, no annoying laptop mousepad, can use it on the couch/in bed without worrying about something to put a corded mouse on to drive, etc. Am I nuts? (stick to classification of 'nuts' in terms of this topic, my shrink already knows the answer to everything else)

Just remember, that for at least for now, it'll be web browsing without Flash.

So long as she'll be okay with missing Flash content, and the inability to have it multi-task (can't play Pandora while reading e-mail, for example), it should be okay. On the other hand, there are plenty of tablet devices on the way that will do both of those things, at a comparable price.
Personally, I just use a smartphone for those things. Yeah, the screen's a bit smaller, but I can watch YouTube videos (those are Flash and the iPad doesn't support that), I can listen to music and surf at the same time (iPad can't do that), and so on. Works for me.

I refuse to buy a device from a company that limits what software I can run on it.

I like my iPhone, and I have to say that after almost a year, the typing works pretty good on the virtual keyboard. I don't miss the real one at all. Once you get the hang of how it works, it does a good job.
The iPad makes sense for web/email, on a casual basis. I'm not sure how badly the missing flash impacts things, but that is the one caveat I have. The interface is smooth, and in some ways, better than a laptop. I'd be curious to see what people think. I am tempted, but I don't need another laptop machine, and for me, a laptop does things I need it to do (powerpoint, SQL). For my Mom, however, I'd be tempted to suggest one. The downsides might be managing things like pictures.

I tried quite hard to dislike the BlackBerry Curve, and failed.
