...Let's see what I have: A sporadic blog with not much on it, assisting people here, 4 articles (2 of which were published first on sswug.org and then here), assisting people here. Haven't been active in the local users group (meeting days conflict with church), haven't presented any where, haven't written a book or even a chapter of a book.
Looks like I have a ways to go as well.
It's not just what you do, but how you do it.
You're putting up a good smoke screen while you fill out your supporting documentation;-)
What supporting documentation? I haven't filled out anything.
I'll be honest, IF I were awarded SQL Server MVP I would be excited and humbled. But I just don't see it happening at this time. Maybe in a few more years, particularly if I am ever able to do some of the things I'd like to do.

Plus, from everything I have seen here on SSC, you don't even know you have been nominated until you have been awarded MVP. So, with that I can always hope, but reality just tells me not to get my hopes up too much.

It is good to not go seeking it. I believe you, just giving you a hard time. I believe you when you say you would be humbled by it too. I think if one is not humbled by it, then maybe it doesn't mean as much to that person.

You find out before you get awarded. I believe that is when they verify the final details.
A few years ago, someone I know found out that he had finally made it to that stage. He'd been nominated numerous times, but with no success. So, he finds out that he had made it to that stage. He gets a job interview the next week followed by a job offer, from Microsoft, we he accepts. No MVP for him. (For those that might no know, Microsoft employees cannot become MVPs.)

To be honest, I think my first reaction would be much like Grant's, total disbelief.
So, Grant, when did you finally realize it was real? Did it take a few days?

There are couple of guys/ladies here in this forum who have done quite a bit for the community and have a pretty good knowledge that deserve a MVP Status. That is from my standpoint. And I'll tell you now that at least one of those people has been nominated. I'm not naming names... yet, but I hope they'll get in.
Well, if we hear that Alvin or Gus get it, I know I'll be excited for them.
If you hear that I got it then it a hoax!!!
If you've been nominated now then you would be awarded on April 1st, so you might think it's a hoax.
Obviously you'd know if you had a chance because you know you were nominated because you would have gotten a request for you community contributions from MS.

Okay, guess I'm safe then cause that hasn't happened.

Nah, you know you were nominated, but not who nominated you, because you have to supply the supporting documentation.
There are definitely several regulars on SSC that aren't MVP's that could be. I was very happy when Gail, Steve, Grant, and Jeff were awarded as in all cases it was merited.
The other thing about the MVP program is that there are a limited number of MVP's so if a new person gets awarded someone else lost it. Sometimes its as much a matter of who you are up against as what you have done.
I know at least one person who was nominated, not me, who didn't get it and I was shocked.

Surely it does have to cease being an emergency after 24hrs.

Should we be working on the SSIS packages now to extract the data from the databases? 😛

Why SSIS? Look at the error messages. It's obviously a flux capacitor alignment problem. 😀
