If that happens, we use the DBCC TIMEWARP to get out of the mess. Gail already has everything documented.. 🙂 Including the 137 parameters...

A restore is coming from IT. I have my fingers crossed that they do as I asked and not restore over this db.Quick, everyone say a prayer to the gods of system administration that my directions will be followed.
Does anyone have a libation of Mountain Dew for the Gods of System Administration? I spilled my tea earlier (only got under the keyboard and mouse though). Will that count/help?

Or...has anyone considered that some of us do not know where to look and with being thrown into situations really do not have the time to do the research and the best we can do is try to find the answer as fast as possible before we are replaced? Also, on other forums, I've been reprimanded for providing TOO much information or being told that SQL cannot be used for what I need even though I see others looking for the same information. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and maybe those who are "gurus" to forums can post an outline of ways to achieve the correct answers quickly?Isn't guidance what is supposed to be done instead of reprimand?
Guidance was given. Gail and others asked for the error log to get a better idea of what had blown up to help the person recover the database. The reprimand came after the insistence that going into Emergency Mode and extracting data from tables was the only thing to do without first suggesting that looking at the SQL Error logs was a necessary step to fixing the problem and avoiding future problems.
There is a whole science and process to recovering suspect databases. Even a small amount of research on this site will let you know that ALLOW_DATA_LOSS is the LAST option.
There are articles already on this site to help posters get answers quickly. Many of the regular posters have links in their signatures to those articles. Providing error messages is part of that, although I would think it logical that if you're asking someone to fix something, the more information you can give about the problem (i.e., the error messages, what was happening, what you were trying to do, etc., at the time of the error) would help. After all, when you go to get your car fixed, hopefully you tell him, "It's making a strange noise when I turn right", rather than just dropping it off at the shop and coming by a few hours later hoping your problem is solved.
As for not knowing where to look, there's Google, there's Books Online, there's the search function on this site. With the Internet at one's fingertips, saying you don't know where to look is a bit of a copout to me.
As to not having the time, all I can say to that is you had better make the time or when your databases go up in flames because you didn't research properly, you WILL have lots of time... unpaid time.
And when it comes to providing too much data, well, follow the guidelines in these articles and then re-read your post, asking yourself if you saw the post and were able to answer it, is it clear and concise enough to get an answer? Yes, it takes some time, but then, learning does.
Hi Kit,
I have googled until I couldn't google no more on things that I found later that were so simple to my answer but I guess my question wasn't enough. I do thank you for your link to those of us who are rather new to this forum. I will keep those in mind.

I think you are right. I wanted to give it a Microsoft minute first though. It seems that the point tally is done in batch through a scheduled job.

If you're looking for answers and do not know where to look that start off by saying so. There's plenty of people here ready to point you in the right direction.
As far as "maybe those who are "gurus" to forums can post an outline of ways to achieve the correct answers quickly?" is concerned, pay attention to the gurus' signature. Some have included links in their signature for the kind of information you're looking.
Yep, tried both of those only to still receive rude dialogue instead of assistance. Maybe it's a culture thing? Who knows. Just my two cents to add to the post with hopes that someone realizes what they are doing isn't helping.
Did that occur here on SSC? The only posts I have seen from you are the ones on this thread.

Let's all begin dancing, ala the Rocky Horror show. I've already started!! 😛
- Damn song will be in my head all day now, although that may not be a bad thing as I head into a boring, and quite monotonous I might add, meeting soon! Hope I don't burst out laughing as I imagine some of the attendees in full dance mode - "But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane, Let's do the Time Warp again!"

Shazam!
I don't know if it is sad, frightening or whatever (or a combination), but I fondly remember watching the TV series Shazam! and sister show Isis when I was a kid.

it is futile. The thread will be assimilated and timwarped back to a previous day.
I think "tim-warping" gets you South Park, actually. Timmy!
