Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • It is especially frustrating from posters with low posting numbers.

I have to say that this stuff is getting kind of disheartening, it makes it difficult to WANT to help.

Like many of you, I've been doing this kind of work for a REALLY long time and have some experience and wisdom to impart, but some posters...

Has no one ever heard of Books Online? Do a search before posting?

    Rant mode disengaged..

I think the time on the MSDN Server is off or it doesn't know what timezone I'm in, which comes out to be about the same. I watched a thread that was "Last Reply 23 hours 49 minutes ago" and when it ticked over to 24 hours it changed to Monday, February 15, 2010 8:28 PM. It's 1:30 PM here, so the date on MSDN is off by 7 hours for me. His original post on MSDN was at 5:37 PM, which would be 10:37 AM for me and your first reply to his thread was at 10:45. So I think yes, he was posting multiple places, but I think he might have posted out there just a few minutes before being able to see your reply.

    Chad

I think both run off UTC Time. I think that is about right for the Mountain Time Zone (diff of 7 hours).

How about a different rant. Don't you get tired of answers that really don't help?

Such as this one and this one.

Gail just responded to the suspect thread. Awesome 😀

I think I know one word going thru her mind. "Flashback" or "Deja Vu" (Haven't I seen this before?)

  • Okay, Gail is in rare form here. Or should I say, I'm glad I'm not the one who is on her bad side today.

  • I'm getting quite sick and tired of people posting answers to corruption/suspect DB questions when it's obvious they don't have a blithering clue what they're talking about.

Hard pill to swallow there. The reality of it is somebody provided an answer where he didn't have to make any changes. No fault on your part. The OP just wanted to be spoon fed.

No, that I don't mind. wBob's answer was clearly better than mine, I have no problem with that. What bothered my was that according to the timestamps he had either just ignored me and posted over there after reading my answer, or worse, hadn't even bothered to check back for my answer before posting over there. That's downright rude.

However, turns out I was wrong, msdn must be using server-local clocks or something because they are off by 5 hours for me, which means that he actually posted both places at about the same time. My bad...

That's the same user who was arguing that differential backups would take the same time and space equal to a full backup.

You mentioned that in the thread a few weeks back. You were in the Provo office or something like that and I was based out of the SLC office.
