Way too much detail Barry  😀

    ... and no pictures, PLEASE!!

    So video is OK? :-D:-P

Sure. Send it to Steve to use in his podcast: "Legacy apps, what does the backend really look like?" :w00t:

Hmm, I was thinking of "
SQL Backends: The Inside Story!
"

    :-D:-D:-D

    That's a good one. 😛

Speaking of psychological response interview questions, anyone watch "the Middle"? favorite interview of all time now is "If you could be any color, what color would you be?"

response was "I guess the color that I am, are you even allowed to ask me that?"

    :hehe:

I was told of a recent interview where a candidate was asked "Can you tell me 3 things you'd like to get out of working for us?".

    The answer was "No". :crying:

ha! This makes me want to go schedule an interview with someone (anyone I don't want to work for) on 4/1 and have some fun...

    That might be fun :w00t:

Downside is that word might get around and ruin your chances with somebody else down the road.

  • I started a Thread to get an idea of who might be in my area for SQL Magazine Connections.

  • I've had that "what do you get out of working here" question before and my answer has been similar. As a DBA (production or dev), the job is the same everywhere. Or it mostly has been for me. I'm not excited about solving issues with the widgets in your corporation. If I decide to work for you (and you to hire me), I hope that it's because we feel this is a good fit and helps to build a team.

Not because tuning SQL Server or managing users is overly exciting.

  • I teach part time, and I see the same thing. I'll have a fill in the blank homework assignment that students will tell me they couldn't find answers to. It's because many of them aren't reading to learn, they're just reading to find key words and hopefully the answer they are looking for.

And now I read a bit farther and see that you're not Malaysian at all (sorry). But being from Kerala would explain any peppery comments you threw at me, right?

I am a very decent guy.... Why would I throw any peppery comment at anyone? :hehe:

On another note, I am still in the carnival mood. 🙂 I am still enjoying my Amstel brights... 🙂

You're not the only part-time teacher here!

I've given out exams before where I'll throw in some BS choices. For a beginner's computer class, I once asked the question: "Click and drag refers to . . . " One of my choices was "a guy dressed as Judy Garland clicking his heels three times." ("Click and drag!" Get it? :-P) Much to my chagrin, someone once actually picked that answer!!!

I've told my students that my questions are designed to make them think. I'll often include choices that sound like it MIGHT be correct, but if they read carefully, they'll find it isn't. I've said to them that all they're looking to do is find the correct answers and just inflate their grades without knowing why, they're wasting their time, and quite frankly, they have no business being in my class.

  • Grrrr..

Do people not know how to read these days..

Between me and another prominent poster we provided an answer and a link to exactly do the answer. And later on down we get a post that the question wasn't answered.. No explanation how it wasn't just that it wasn't..

    Grrrrrr...

    Vent concluded..

Had to do a little looking (no link the "offending" thread), but the solution provided looks good, for SSIS. Problem is, it looks like the OP is looking for a solution in SQL Server 7/2000.

  • I just needed to vent a little bit..

I see that it was in the 7, 2000 group but the title is:

Dynamic Connection TO DIFFERENT INSTANCES in SQL SERVER SSIS 2008.

    That means SSIS to me..

    Offender:

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost866245.aspx

  • I currently run 75% of my databases on SQL 2000 (I know, big ouch). I use one instance of SSIS 2008 to perform various tasks against all of my 2000, 2005 and 2008 databases. It works quite well. More logic needs to be built in to make it work that way due to the changes between versions - but it is very effective for what I do.

That link you sent was the equivalent of holding his hand, screen prints that are marked up to show what is important, a complete process to follow..

If he had said "I don't understand" I might have been more tolerant, but his response kind of set me off, already not having a good week so it doesn't take much..
