    1) Goto my blog site and download my presentation "TheTop Ten Reasons You Aren't already using Service Broker", or "Top 10 Fixes for your first Service Broker project". It's actually got 15 tips in it, so it's more of a mega-tip.

    2) The symptom that you are describing is most often caused by the restricted security context that the Activation Procedure runs under. In particular it typically cannot access non-public resources in other databases without some special setup.

Barry, have you ever used Service Broker and triggers to move data from one DB to another? If so, can I mail you and chat about pros, cons and gotchas?

I sure have, so feel free to email me. One caveat, it's my bedtime here (3:30am), and I have a medical procedure tomorrow, so I won't see your stuff until late afternoon at best.

I hope I'm not being presumptuous here, but I would love to be involved in this question, if nothing more as an observer. I have definite interest in this area as well.

    OK, here's the first one:

    Lynn:

I want to apologize for what I said about you in the "black-list" thread. I know that it wasn't derogatory, but it was condescending of you and your position in the communities on-going "bad behavior" discussion over the past year. I was trying too hard to make my point to that fellow and I did not fairly represent your position, I'm sorry.

Barry, please tell me this was tongue-in-cheek. I read your response, several times, and actually enjoyed it and Gus's followup. It was quite appropriate and actually appreciated. This may seem wrong or self-serving, but I felt vindicated by your response and support. I realize I tend to continue working with "difficult" op's when others have walked away and suggested the same to me as well, but that is just me. I wish I could have answered the op in that thread in as eloquent a manner as you.

  • Thanks Lynn. as for the SB stuff, I am OK with it if Gail does not mind...

"Drink, Dance and Be merry" :hehe:

Just as long as it's not "Drink, dance and be Mary"...Although, in this day and age, who really cares!

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • While reading the thread for today's headline article, I thought of an excellent interview question:

"What is the most important data in the world?"

I think you could gain plenty of insight into the candidate from that question. Canned answers could be determined, sincerity determined, and BS can be determined. You would be able to determine how much they like being a DBA or want to be a DBA.
