Are the posted questions getting worse?

Special thanks to the standard purchasing guidelines to have an RFQ process that involves at least 10 suppliers (each one having your contact information) if you need a ball pen....

Ten?!?! Wow - just wow really.

As it happens, I can never find a pen that works, so feel free to send a bunch over...:hehe:

More seriously, I think the poster must bear the full responsibility for whatever he or she posts - including the sample data. You did the right thing of course, but I wouldn't worry about what may or may not happen now, that's a decision for others.

Well, not really ten, but three at the minimum...;-)

I was just trying to make the point that some of the "bean counters" lost the gut feeling for the good old effort/benefit ratio (for those who might feel to be offended: prove me wrong 😉 ). Therewith they spread company information just for the sake of gaining a cent or two including the risk of data misuse.

  • Lutz,

I could track back the person, but I don't think it's appropriate, at least without a subpoena or other legal instrument. We worked hard to protect emails here, and that's the downside.

Data is easily moved in the world, and it can be hard to track down the source. However I think you handled it in the best way, and at least someone is alerted to be aware of their contractors.

    How do you find them?

Do you use divining rods? I admire your determination.

Don't people know that you need the correct flux capacitor if you want to fix database problems with backups taken after the problem occurred??? Those flux capacitors are not included with SQL Server. You have to buy them separately. 😛

Somedays I think they're finding me. If my divining rods worked, I'd use them to avoid some posters.

I'm contemplating a blog post on the recovering historically deleted data with DBCC TimeWarp (with all 137 non-optional parameters). Maybe for the beginning of April...

Beginning of April won't work. Can you have it ready for Jan 2010? 😉

That's right. It only works on "fast" servers. 😀

I'll second that. It's a great post and a great story. Stories like that are definitely an encouragement to me to keep trying.
