Oh, before I forget Jason, we passed on to our local chapter membership the link to your blog about user group participation. That should be required reading for all SQL professionals and enthusiasts!!!
Thanks. Thanks for the twitter follow too (both the group and personal follows).
It's just a small piece of the puzzle. Andy Warren is looking to write an entire series on the subject. I wonder how it will work out.

Oh, before I forget Jason, we passed on to our local chapter membership the link to your blog about user group participation. That should be required reading for all SQL professionals and enthusiasts!!!Would love to participate in the CSSUG, unfortunately they hold their monthly meetings on Wednesday nights. Sorry, but that is a church night for my family. I may get out of it once in a while, but it has to be a special type event, like when Steve Jones came and presented. Had to go then just meet him.
Life participation is very important. I wouldn't tell somebody to do SQL over Church or family. Priorities. I was hoping to convey more of a "you get out of it what you put in."
There is also the forum participation that Andy looks to discuss in his series.

The problem I have is that I want to participate in the CSSUG, but they have made it a choice between church/family and the users group. I would like the opportunity to network with others in my chosen career field.
It's also why I don't officiate High School Soccer on Wednesday's. I'd give up one day month of officiating soccer to attend if they met on any other week night.

How nice it would be if getting answers from PASS was as simple as dealing with the OPs on here. One can only wish.
Are you saying that they are worse than some of the OP's that spwned The Thread?
So far, YES!
Edit:
Without getting into all the details, I have asked four times HOW to get a certain thing done. All I'm getting for answers is "Yes that can be done."
Well, it can. What's the problem?

Not a matter of illiteracy, but obviously a lack of comprehension. Unfortunately, that is worse. I mean, HOW is not the same as CAN.
... and I think it's caused by not taking the time to read every word in a 2 sentence email.
It's not like I'm asking them to fix my laptop. 😀
Someone eyes have been opened. Progress is being made. 🙂
Now, if only we could get Steve's laptop looked after. (Note: I did not say fixed.) 😀

seconded. Jason and Andy should collaborate on a book about how to get involved, I think they basically have a rough draft to submit to an editor already.

No, just thinking it may be a good time to get a new one, before this one bites the dust too.

In that case then....
I personally am looking at the Vaio. Unless there is a really good laptop with minimum 4gb that has about the same price tag as the vaio. Sad to think that 2GB on a laptop just isn't enough any more.

I'm thinking that I need to get a "desktop replacement" laptop and then turn my desktop into a home server .
