Is my halo getting tarnished by such responses as this?
Maybe just a bit.

In retrospect after looking at the name of the OP, I might reconsider whether there is a tarnished halo or not.

Of course you'd probably know most of this if you were to take some time and read Books Online before posting your questions here on ssc and expect us to provide you detailed instructions on how to do everything
Lynn - I would say not a speck of tarnish - for isn't "teaching others how to teach themselves" as equally important or more important then supplying them a single answer to a single question. And when supplying a specific answer do you not always have the hope that the individual is taught more, and does not just cut, paste and use.

Just curious: is anyone else besides me struck by the number of people asking about character-to-date conversions?See it quite often. Most replies are that it was inherited and they can't change it. We help as we can.
You know Lynn, I'm surprised that you don't just post a link to your excellent blog post of those date/time conversions.

I have on occasion. I have also seen a few others from ssc do it as well. I guess it depends on the question asked if I do it.

How nice it would be if getting answers from PASS was as simple as dealing with the OPs on here.
One can only wish.

Are you saying that they are worse than some of the OP's that spwned The Thread?

So far, YES!
Edit:
Without getting into all the details, I have asked four times HOW to get a certain thing done. All I'm getting for answers is "Yes that can be done."

That would be frustrating. I guess that is a Perk of being a local PASS chapter president? 😉

Not a matter of illiteracy, but obviously a lack of comprehension. Unfortunately, that is worse. I mean, HOW is not the same as CAN.

Oh, before I forget Jason, we passed on to our local chapter membership the link to your blog about user group participation. That should be required reading for all SQL professionals and enthusiasts!!!

... and I think it's caused by not taking the time to read every word in a 2 sentence email.
It's not like I'm asking them to fix my laptop. 😀

Would love to participate in the CSSUG, unfortunately they hold their monthly meetings on Wednesday nights. Sorry, but that is a church night for my family. I may get out of it once in a while, but it has to be a special type event, like when Steve Jones came and presented. Had to go then just meet him.
