You're an evil man, Emperor Paulpatine.... :laugh:Oh so The Dixie Flatline *is* Bob! I missed the transition somewhere...d'oh!
Thanks for the high compliment!
What about BOB?
Oh that Bob, he went through an identity crisis.
At least it is an identity - I remember not too long ago he was just a period. A dot, nothing more - not really there at all, no identity to speak of... :hehe:

Yes - I remember the 'dot' ... confusing! I just missed the introduction of Dixie Flatline - no doubt there is some deep meaning behind that, which I am about to Google...:-)

Alas, that was before my time here at SSC.

Really? Wow. I thought it was reasonably recent - and also that you had been around for quite some time now. Genuinely surprised. BTW that bug in 2008 I was talking about: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=382235. Sucks.

I registered at SSC many moons ago. I didn't truly start participating (not even lurking) at SSC until July of 2009. Then I got real busy again and took a sabbatical from SSC. Thus, my activity really hasn't been that long here. I'm probably more of a Dot than Bob was at the time that happened.

I wonder what they are really considering the next major relaese?
It could be the current CPT that's out.
Although I'd expect some kind of hotfix if that's the case.

Perhaps they are saying it is fixed in SQL Server 2008 R2. That, however, means an upgrade. I agree, it should be fixed in a hotfix or in the next service pack, SP 2.

Next major version. R2 is not considered a major version, for eg it doesn't bump the major version in @@version. R2 is 10.5
It's touched on in a couple places, eg
http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2009/06/10/we-need-your-express-setup-feedback.aspx
Pertinent quote being
If we can’t address in SQL Server 2008 R2, we will consider addressing in the next major release.

If you feel that way, add your comments on the Connect item.

Just curious: is anyone else besides me struck by the number of people asking about character-to-date conversions?

See it quite often. Most replies are that it was inherited and they can't change it. We help as we can.

There have been a rash of those. New semester started recently 😉
