Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • I know it's something others have said, I just think this is particularly well said, and wanted to share:

This is a huge part of what I have learned from all of you here at SSC. Thank you for your hard work and inspiration, and I look forward to more! 😀

Very good. I'm reminded of another characteristic of an 'expert' - someone who doesn't necessarily know the answer from memory, but knows *exactly* where to look, and how to explain what he or she finds.

Take a look at this one

It is one of the worst I have seen on SSC in a long long time.

Lynn - I must compliment you on your restraint in being civil with this arrogant S O B -- Been me, I would have reached through the monitor and punched him in the face.

I guess that's why I have been called "The Saint of SSC". Trust me, there are many times I'd like to be more like the saints of antiquity and bean some of thes people on the head a few times.

After two days, the pole guy finally responds.

Those suggestions make absolutely no sense to me based on his original post. I asked again for the standard info, we'll see what he says.

Heh yeah I still haven't dared answer this because I don't have Lynn's extraordinary restraint.

You have to ask yourself if individuals with this attitude, when skilled up to write decent TSQL, would make decent workmates.

I'm going to do just like the op suggested... "move on." There are some nice people that need help. 🙂

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

Maybe, but I'm willing to try and help him. And looking at was suggested by his PAID developers, it is an opportunity to show him we are arrogant, we are just that good.

Hmm, maybe a little arrogant? Nah, just confidence in the skills and knowledge available here on SSC.

It's pretty clear that either his explanation of the problem was incredibly FAR off, if partitioning was the answer, or his paid consultants, while inexpensive, are worth far less than what he's paying.

Either way, he's a dink and St. Lynn is alive & well.

  • My sincere apologies to the group for the term I used. I had learned it, a long time ago, in terms like this, not like the first slang listed here. Again, I didn't know any better and I'm very sorry if I offended anyone.

But it's pretty clear the word has a wide number of uses. "Desperately In Need of Knowldge" seems somehow applicable, but I'll refrain from using it ever again.

Had never heard of that word used in that manner before. Many of the other terms though seem like they would still be usable without great offense.

  • Grant,

I didn't think it was that bad, but when it doubt, doesn't hurt to apologize.
