Bring forth the Holy Pork Chop of Antioch! πŸ˜›

Heh... paraphrased from one of my favorite "B" movies...

"Glory be to the [Code], and to the Holy [Forum]. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. [T-SQL questions] without end. Amen."

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

    ...And chastising QODs:blush:

Heh... nah... "tweeking" is the word that I would chose on the one you're thinking of. πŸ˜€ I bashed one that Steve posted pretty darned hard.... that was a "2 chop chastisment".

I totally expected somebody to do it better. It was no surprise to see it. I just wanted to demonstrate a little "fun" on my birthday. A little demo on forward and backward types of recursion.

    I did like your script.

Heh... and to calm the other fears that you spoke of in a PM... only those that study your good code example will actually realize the power of the "gen" code you used. If they do, they deserve the knowledge that you've bestowed upon them. Well done, Jason.

    Thanks much kind Sir:cool:

I'm starting to notice a trend in a few questions where people expect tables to store records in a specific order. Anyone else seeing that trend?

(Okay, two posts don't make a trend, but it could be the start ... πŸ˜› )

I think it's a natural assumption for folks who've just started using a relational db. If they've used Excel, for instance, it may be even more difficult to realize the difference between db tables and spreadsheets.

Anyway, Merry Christmas/Happy Chanukah/Peaceful Ramadan/Happy Kwanza to all!

That's an interesting point you make, John. Someone here was recently asking why I'd added an extra column at column A in a spreadsheet they'd sent me. I've been doing it for years now, add a new column A as an identity column - it's because the sort order of rows in a spreadsheet is often very meaningful and it's almost always impossible to sort it back once you've sorted it to a different order, you have to copy or whatever. An "identity column" changes all that.

  • *raises hand* and it's 8pm here.

I'm days behind where I should be on the current project, partially because of lots of VM problems.

Sorry - just hit the lunch hour. I am still working today.....

(by the way - there seems to be a bug going on. No matter which message I pick to reply to, Roy's message is the one that gets quoted.... - See above. I had picked Gus' message to reply to).

Yup. It actually started Monday afternoon, although I was sick yesterday (not just sick of work)

It's a known bug. If you hit the Quote button, and someone has posted something since you got to the page, it will pick a prior post to quote, not the one you selected.

The solution is refresh the page and try again. If there are a lot of fast responses on the page, it may take multiple tries.
