I think Gail is like me, running from thing to thing, not sure how all the plates are staying in the air.At least I have kids to balance things out at times. Course, them being snowed in today, they are making it hard for me to work.

How do you find the time? School, articles, SSC, writing books, work...A former boss of mine used to say... if 24 hrs a day isn't enough, work nights.
I wonder occasionally if I could talk my boss into working 20hrs Monday, sleep 8 hrs, work 20hrs Tuesday and then be off the rest of the week. Already do that much computer time between work and school, so that wouldn't be an issue.
And then I think, ok, what if I got two jobs doing that and made twice as much money?

You could have a four day work week (Monday/Tuesday, Thursday/Friday with Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday off) and two incomes; not a bad idea, if you could pull it off. 😉

For fellow Americans interested in the Health Reform debate, here's what all the hubbub is about:
http://www.newamerica.net/blog/new-health-dialogue/2009/health-politics-hr-3962-15672
I suggest the topline and 11-page 'detailed summary' documents as starting points.
And then take a copy of the section-by-section or the full bill for fodder on the plane, to help you sleep :hehe:
Enjoy.

I was working on my boss at a startup, trying to get him to go for a 24 hour job. Working 3 days a week and then I was going to do something else. Can't remember if it was school or another job. But it was viable. We were doing weekly development, but the database had matured and most weeks I wasn't busy enough with stuff. Had to go find things to do, learn C#, write reports, etc. to keep busy.
He was close, then the company failed. 🙁

Friday indeed.
Just a quick pulse check.
Roy - how are the bruises? Did you get a steering wheel imprint you can show off like a battle scar?
You know, ladies dig scars.
Did the insurance get your car squared away?
And it is good to see you are still doing well.

I dont have any scars...:-( I am too dark skinned to have the imprint to be shown. But it hurts when my stomach gets full with food. When the muscle stretches on my stomach, it hurts. My shoulder and back still hurts a bit. Other than that I am good. Insurance has not got back to me yet to let me know if this will be written off as a total loss or salvageable. But which ever it is, the official part is done. I had to pay the deductible. Now the insurance will take care of the rest. That is one good thing here. They usually dont try to mess you up. 🙂

Sorry I haven't been online much today, Jason. I was being held hostage and forced to empty my brain into the head of one of our new guys.
Roy, I think you had a much better plan for the day!!
Are you hiring?

I've been kept busy lately with real work. Not that y'all missed me, but just spent more time than I should admit catching up with the Thread and now I feel I have to chime in on some things that came up in the past week, even if belatedly:
My sympathies to RBarry for his back trouble
...to Jack for the scare with his daughter
...to Roy for his automotive adventure
...to all those disappointed that they won't see how well Jeff wears a kilt
I understand how the folks new to this forum can confuse a screenname with the points-based ranking name. When someone called me "Old Hand", I responded with something like "Dear Grasshopper..."
Finally, the book! Wow. If you haven't checked it out, do yourself and your organization a favor and do so at http://www.manning.com/nielsen/. I looked at the chaper topics and contributor list and it took me maybe 10 seconds to decide it had to be worth buying. Used the 40% discount code that Gail posted and had the early access PDF file here almost immediately. This is definitely a must-have for me, a SQL developer who wants to know what my dba is talking about ;-).
Someone posted that they were hesitant to buy an incomplete early edition, but there's no downside that I can see. Yes, the early edition I just got doesn't have quite all the chapters, but as more become available, I'll get access to revised copies right through hard-copy publication when I'll get the full e-book. And the price of the hard-copy includes the e-book, so if you want the hard-copy, You may as well go ahead and order now.
