Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Hey!! That worked, Crawfi.... eerrr... Jon!! 😀

Fortunately, I don't know any lyrics to go with Beethoven's 9th, except for "Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee.."

I refuse to publicly parody hymns.

    Arrghh... (new tooth).

I got into an accident yesterday. A four car pile up. Thankfully no one got hurt bad. My whole body is sore. Hit my chest badly on the steering wheel. No broken bones.. 🙂 My car is damaged very badly. The car wont even start now.

Wow... I'm glad you're ok, Roy. I've gotta ask though... were you wearing you setbelt?

Yes, I was. The thing was when I saw the car in the front skidding and loosing control I lean forward a bit and then when the crash happened, I was too close to the steering wheel. My chest took the brunt of the crash. Then the other two cars crashed from behind. I was slammed from front and brake.

Interestingly when the first car hit from my back, I thought yea, everything is over. I was going to take of my seat belt. Then I saw another car coming from the back on the rear view mirror, I held on to the steering wheel all my strength... 🙂

Thanks Grant. Just muscle pain now. My body aches like hell...

  • We're all really pleased you're still alive and online, Roy... and still really pleased about Jack's little girl.

Now if we can only get Barry well enough to go running every day, like Steve.

Chronic back pain and running are not two things that do very well together. I'd be ecstatic if Barry could just be pain free for a while, without the meds of course.

I've been meaning to ask you about that Steve... when you say you run every day, do you have a set distance/time that you always run and then exceed that on other days based on a schedule or whatnot? Only curious because once my knee heals up a bit more, you've inspired me to embark on a similar schedule prior to ramping up my training in April for the fall marathon season.

  • So far Barry has not had much help with Medications and all that, maybe he should try acupuncture or Natural treatment... Who knows, maybe that will help.

Very true, Luke. I share the sentiment. Hopefully Barry won't be offended.

Interesting cross join on good luck and bad luck. Bad luck on the accident, good on avoiding anything serious injury-wise. Better a trashed car than a trashed body, any time.

  • So, on the running.

The aim was a mile a day. I was inspired (http://amileaday.blogspot.com/2008/09/inspiration.html) by Jim Garrett and then found the US Running Streak Accoc. (http://runeveryday.com/). I started a combination of inside (treadmill) and outside (grass/gravel) running last Sept (08).

My typical routine (http://amileaday.blogspot.com/2008/09/routine.html) has varied, but it was about 1.2-1.3 mi for a few months. I wanted to be sure that I wasn't damaging things. I felt fine, although tired after snowboarding some days. I also had some minor injuries that might have stopped me in the past that I ran through, like sore knees or slightly twisted ankles.

After 4-5 months, I started to hit 1.5 more often, and then added in some 2 and 3 mi runs every week. I now average about 55-60 miles a month, going typically 1.5-2 mi most days. I could go more, but I feel great, it's not that much time, and it's a great sense of accomlishment.

    415 days and counting.

  • Maybe I should run this query as a job? kill the user here that uses the most CPU and memory every 5 minutes?

  • Congrats Steve on the streak. Being an Avid Runner myself - I'm just trying to get back to it after having had knee surgery earlier this year.

We had Bob with difficulties in getting Steve Miller out of his yesterday/night while trying to work. Anybody else have difficulty getting work out of their head when trying to sleep?

Maybe we should ask the OP to have scheduled task that runs every 5 minutes to restart SQL Server Service...:hehe:

Ummm... couldn't that be you? Or would you make the job smart enough to ignore your spid(s) and userid?

Anybody know anything more about it, opinions or otherwise?

If you're going to buy the book (and you won't be at the PASS conference), then rather order from the Manning website than from Amazon. More goes to charity. Also, as an incentive, there's a standing discount code that you can use to get the book for 40% off. sqldeep40

Looking at the Manning Site, it shows that only some of the chapters are available currently. Do you know anything concerning that (is it just an update issue and the chapters really are available, or do we need to wait for an update)?

I'm looking to order both forms of the book, would like to get the complete e-book asap - and can wait for the page-turner. However, I would rather get the entire book at once - thus if some chapters are not available, then I would wait to purchase.
