Grrrrrrrrrrr.... I can't get my mind back on work. Oldies tunes keep running through my head.

Some people call me the SQL Cowboy.

Some people call me the Gangsta of Joins.

Nobody has ever called me "Maurice" though....

I got into an accident yesterday. A four car pile up. Thankfully no one got hurt bad. My whole body is sore. Hit my chest badly on the steering wheel. No broken bones.. 🙂 My car is damaged very badly. The car wont even start now.

Wow... I'm glad you're ok, Roy. I've gotta ask though... were you wearing you setbelt?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

Gail, can I get your autograph if I buy a copy? (I'm buying one anyway, but hey.)

Come to the launch event[/url], you'll find most of the authors there (not all are coming to the PASS conference) and you can collect autographs.

There's going to be a lot of signing. Many of the authors have indicated that they want to get their copies autographed.

Anybody know anything more about it, opinions or otherwise?

    Some background first.

Project was started late last year, it was open to all MVPs (regardless of technical speciality) providing they wrote about SQL Server. It kinda went on hold when one of the editors had family problems and the other was travelling extensively.

All chapters are 6-10 pages long, self-contained, on a topic of the author's choice.

Of the chapters that I've read, all are interesting and well written. There will be source code available for the chapters where that's relevant. My opinion of the book is that it is almost a must-read.

If you're going to buy the book (and you won't be at the PASS conference), then rather order from the Manning website than from Amazon. More goes to charity. Also, as an incentive, there's a standing discount code that you can use to get the book for 40% off. sqldeep40

As a perhaps amusing aside, I spoke with my boss yesterday. He's already ordered 3 copies and is planning to order 8 more. Odd because he's into Biztalk, not SQL. Apparently the plan is to give them away to clients/potential clients.

Come to think of it, I need to get Grant's too.

Jeff is a work in progress.

Any other authors in the Thread?

We're doing a book signing, seperate from the MVP one, on Thursday somewhere around the conference.

    Hi Gail,

Can you confirm when the book comes out, the manning site says november the 4th and yet amazon says 13th december. On another note, it says on the manning site, international deliveries about 10 days for delivery and up to 8 weeks to get past customs . Might be easier to get it off amazon and make a separate donation to the charity.

Looking at the chapter descriptions, Dont see Jeff down there. or am I missing something?

Can you confirm when the book comes out, the manning site says november the 4th and yet amazon says 13th december.

The first print run is going straight to the PASS summit and the launch of the book is at the PASS summit on the 4th November. I can't speak for Amazon, if they say the 13th Dec, then they're only going to be selling it from the 13th Dec.

On another note, it says on the manning site, international deliveries about 10 days for delivery and up to 8 weeks to get past customs.

Note the "up to" They're probably playing safe. Stuff I order from Amazon (when they would ship here) was 6-8 weeks delivery, seldom took less than 10, 2-3 of those weeks in customs, depending on time of year.

Looking at the chapter descriptions, Dont see Jeff down there. or am I missing something?

The chapter descriptions and authors are complete, everyone who took part is listed. If someone isn't listed there, they didn't take part. It wasn't compulsory.
