Can you get a GMAIL account and use Google authentication, Roy?
Wayne, can you at least take escalate this within your organization to say the quality of the work that has been outsourced is unacceptable?
I have this odd vision of one of the "outsourcees" bringing a problem here for assistance, and then Wayne helps him out and finally sees his own code coming back to him, only they are getting paid for it and he isn't.

Unfortunately not. All external emails and its authentications are blocked at the firewall. 🙁

I run into the same issue. Can't authenticate into the page. Can post as a guest, but anyone who wants to post as GSquared can pretty much do so at this point, so the page actually has net negative value to me right now.

Same with me here. I can only do things as an anonymous user. At least there is someone else also who has the same problem like me.

Good luck, Wayne. Remember, it's just a job.
Yeah, but at least I'm in the position where I can reject their code... they just keep coming to me for how to make it acceptable 'cause they don't know any other way. At least the guy seems willing to please me.

Might happen... I gave him some links to Barry's "Lose your cursor" and Jeff's RBAR and "Use Tally Table to avoid loops" articles. Heck, if I see him trying I might be more willing to help him learn the better ways. Today he removed the cursor, but he still has a while loop.... it doesn't help, but it shows that he's trying.

I've got a draft email I'm working on about this now.

OpenID has providers from a number of sources. I use my Google account, and as long as I'm signed in on a browser, that works. Not sure if any of them are http, but you might try asking for an exception since it's a fairly well known authentication provider.
Or ignore it. ASK isn't for everyone.

We all have nightmare stories about developers and their code. Anybody have some stories about the accountant that thinks he's a DBA?

No accountants, how about statisticians?

No accountants here either... Nurses, Receptionists, Sales people... those I've seen try to be DBA's. Nurses weren't so bad, neither were the receptionists... keep the sales people away from the databases. They're the last people on earth who should have 'sa' privs.

I did some work for a dentist, he was OK other than not wanting to pay. Worked for a builder as well. Not fun.

Venting time. Feel free to skip this post if you're not in the mood to hear me whinge on... 🙂
So, this guy Steve McRoberts goes to all the trouble of writing a pretty comprehensive article[/url] on using XML as a way to pass a set of data to and from stored procedures in SQL 2K5. Now, while I don't agree with everything he does, you have to admire the effort that went into the article, and the style of writing.
I flicked over to the Discussion, expecting to find an intelligent and interesting debate (ok ok, I know - but it does happen!)
I find comments like this and this.
If I were the author, I think I would be midway between angry and depressed!
Sigh.

Has everyone here started using ask.sqlservercentral.com ? I still cannot login since our works firewall will not allow yahoo authentication that is used for OpenIDToo bad the site does not have a local registration like here.
Not sure about anyone else, Steve already knows my views about the site. Not going to use it, prefer SSC 100%

Agreed. Very heartily. Especially when it's ACT by Sage which has so many integrated own ways of doing things it even deletes users added to the database so everything had to be done with the sa password rather than via windows logins permissions. Then the salesman got loose.... and we have to fix the mess
I won't use Ask as we also can't get through the office firewall which is set to prevent people logging onto personal web mail sites such as yahoo and google and to prevent visits to eBay etc. in office time.

Paul,
I really didn't see anything in the discussion that would make me feel between angry and depressed.
