It's hard to stay in the top 5-10 here since you get points for questions. It seems that we'll have a few people every month answering 500 questions and jumping up in the rankings for awhile. How true. However, Barry, Grant, and Jack were actually talking about the Overall Leader Board, not the Past 30 Days shown on the home page.
All I need is another 165 posts and I'll hit 8000 on the Forum Posters Board. I'll need a few more than that to break the 10,000 on the Overall Leader Board, but heh, whose counting?
I just enjoy being involved with this awesome community! 😀
Who is counting? SSC is.

Sorry, but I'd rather be here in person for those events.I'm taking a 2 week vacation starting next week, and I may or may not be around. We are driving to Ft Jackson, SC to see my oldest daughter graduate from Basic Training. We'll get to spend most of the 15th and 16th with her, she even gets to stay with us at our hotel off base the night of the 15th. She has to return to the base nlt 2000 on the 16th and then flys to Goodfellow AFB for 7 months AIT.
Here is the fun part, at no expense to us, we will be spending the weekend in Myrtle Beach SC. Friends of ours are using their Time Share points to get us a place for the weekend. Then the long drive back and few days off to recover before going back to work on the 26th.
😉
Wow, she's graduating from basic already? Seems like just yesterday you were posting about her going to basic.
Sounds like a great vacation. My next couple of "vacations" are 3 of the seminars before SQLSaturday in Orlando and then the Summit.
The last letter I got from her was dated 9/30. She said it was hard to believe that it had be 65 days already. They had done live fire training that day as well while moving casualties. Her words: "My team kicked butt!" and "It is nerve wracking running while your battle buddies are firing at targets." She should be at Victory Forge now, 7 days in the field.

Congrats to your daughter Lynn. That really is an accomplishment. And its' one that fewer and fewer people can lay claim to any more.

Congrats Lynn. You are a patriot as well. You are letting your offspring go into the army... 🙂 I am not sure how I will take it if my daughter or my son comes and tells me that they want to join the armed force. 😉

It really wasn't hard. Having served in the USAF, I fully supported her decision (though I would have preferred her going USAF as well), and it was done with a lot of information and discussions.
I have two more girls still at home. One wants nothing to do with the military, the other (even at 11) is considering it as an option though she is leaning toward USAF.
I support them and what ever decisions they make. Can't force them not to do something just because you don't agree. Once they hit that certain age, it is their decision.

Yes, true... The final decision is theirs. I am not going to force my kids to change their minds... I am just hoping that they wont come with that decision. My Daughter who is just 8 wants to be a Doctor. My son, no clue yet... He is just 4.
Since you were in Armed force, I can imagine that it would have been easier for you to be happy for her. But for someone like me who has never served in any Armed force, it is different. Scary to be honest... Probably nothing to be scared about... 🙂

Just because I served doesn't make it less scary. In today's world, there really aren't any conventional wars, much more counterinsurgency where there really isn't a front and rear areas. So yes, I am scared in many ways, but I know my daughter and how she takes her training and responsibilities very seriously and will do the best she can regardless of the situation. With her MOS, she will most likely be in more secure areas than some of the other soldiers, but still at risk if in a combat environment like Iraq or Afghanistan.

That makes it even more scarier for me... 🙂 I guess here we wont have so many issues like that. There is only a token Marine force. The only threat is Venezuela. Once in while a hint is dropped. Suddenly you will see FOL of US and Dutch marines doing naval exercise.... :hehe:

Lynn, congrats on Kasandra's achievement, but as I said before, I would be very unhappy if any of my three kids were to join the SANDF and would strongly discourage them from doing so. Yeah, I also never served in any Armed Forces, and I do see the necessity for their existence, but it is nothing I want my kids to voluntarily get involved with. Of course there's no way I can stop them if they decide that's the thing they wanna do...
Roy, same over here. This country once had a mighty army/navy/airforce, but it has all been scaled down, no more conscription since "liberation", which was whites-only in the first place. Yeah, SAAF bought 24 Gripens (last I knew 4 were delivered so far), Navy got a few Corvettes and some new subs, but one doesn't get to see them too often. Corvettes are used to hunt down Far-East poachers in our territorial waters, which is useful, but probably overkill. The most we've seen lately of any Navy ships in Cape Town harbour was the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the Russian I can't remember what its name was just a few weeks later.

Ah... but has she learned the true meaning of happiness?
