I took a look at this particular thread. I do agree with you, Silverfox, and I am usually one tht tries very hard in this regard. Sometimes, howver, it becomes very difficult to try and teach someone to fish when they show no desire to learn how to fish.
Sometimes when fishing, you have to not only supply the fishing rod, but you have to hold it for them as well, until they understand how to use it.
And sometimes you end up doing it all for them, I should know, been there, done that, keep getting the shirt everytime I go... Haven't been called a Saint for nothing. I just haven't gotten involved in this particular thread, too busy at work to devote the time. This thread, however, doesn't take much time to post and can do it between things.

If he insists killing processes without knowing what they do, let him do it.He already has decided to increase lock timeout and kill process, so, why bother?
Has it ever occurred to anyone here, that the op might be the SQL DBA for this company. Considering some of the questions that are received on this forum and by people who imply that they know what they are talking about, doesnt mean they are capable. and IMHO it is better to try and educate and fail then not attempt and fail anyways 😉
There's also a time to tell the person that starving to death isn't preferable to hiring someone to fish for them.
Generally, I try to educate in my posts. However, there are times when I judge that it will be in their best interest to get someone on-site who knows what to look for, before they do more harm to themselves.

Definitely agree with Gus in regard to that thread. I've been known to kill processes on occasion, but I always find out what they are doing and then work on fixing that problem. It looks like this person has no interest in learning what the blocking process is doing or how to learn. Is it too hard to run DBCC InputBuffer or query a DMV before the kill?

Excellent. See you there. One more person added to the cast of thousands that I need to see while at PASS.
Steve, is the SSC party on Monday night this year? I haven't paid for my entry fee to it yet. Need to get that done.

My company will give me the time off, unpaid, and I can go to the conference - if I pay all expenses. Time to look for a new job methinks....I know times are a bit tough but to enhance your employee's skill set and value to the company??? A couple of thousand dollars?

Awesome! Another SSC person to add to my must meet list! I'm not sure I'll have time to meet everyone I want to meet.

You definitely do. That'll help guarantee we are in the same place at least once that week.

Our group has a population of about a million to draw from and we don't get a lot more than that at our meetings. Looks like you're off to a good start.
