You're not the only one. I did so earlier in the week in a comment about a correlated subquery. The difference is that it's not common and we correct it when it's pointed out.
If it's the one I'm thinking about, you did correct it and you did it with all the grace and good form expected of a true professional.
Anyone else think that a 'how to answer questions' article would be useful? If so, anyone interested in writing it?
Heh... I can just see the flame comments now.
Actually, Sushilla (Sue) did one a couple of years back. It was so well written that I came within a couple of milli-seconds of putting a plug in the pork chop launcher. Extemely well written and extremely moving. Perhaps we can talk Steve into finding it and republishing it. It wasn't so much written on how we as respondents should respond... it was more on everyone showing the proper professionalism and the right attitude on all posts.

I doubt whatever server SSC is using could hold a complete list of everyone who has ever deserved one of Jeff's porkchops! There just plain isn't that much disk space on this planet! 🙂
I refuse to make a list where I'd need to include my name on it! I've pulled a couple of doozies my own self. 😛

how can you possibly think he's wrong?
Well, it's not that he's wrong. That's a perfectly correct answer, just to a different question. It's the same as if someone asked about indexes for an update statement and I replied saying "Cursors are evil". Technically correct but not for the question asked.

I'm writing an article on corruption at the moment and one of the things I've had to put in is a warning that not all advice given on a forum is good. It sounds obvious, but it doesn't seem to be so for everyone, and I keep seeing advice that's exceedingly dangerous. Especially on corruption questions I've seen advice that will turn an easily repairable, minor problem into a complete disaster.

So what?, only 2 people on that thread answered without reading (or understanding) the question.Since when reading the full question a requirement of posting an answer?
😀
Maybe it's time to make a netiquette article for helpers, not just OP! 😎
I'm ashamed to say, I'm guilty on that count. Several times I've spotted a phrase and just stopped reading and responded to what I thought the rest of the post was about. I hate having to post apologies, but I'll do it when I screw up.
BWAA-HAA!!! You should see me when I try to shoot myself in the kisser with a pork chop when I deserve it!
Say it with me: "ricochet"....:)

Heh... first, you do realize that I was spoofing on him, right. 🙂 Just gotta make sure.
And I agree... correct answer for the wrong question is still not correct or I'd have gotten 4.0's in high school. :hehe: I'm pretty much ticked at the dude myself and I think you show remarkable restraint.

Yes, I agree. I think I had read it when it was first published as some it sounded familiar. It really should be published again.

Awesome... thanks for looking it up, Barry. Her mastery of the written word is just an absolute pleasure to read. She doesn't visit the forum very often, anymore... and that's our loss.
Hey, Remi!!! You remember Sushilla, right?

Heh... DUDE! Did you just call me a hard head? 😛
Anyone remember the ol' "Ricochet Rabbit" cartoons? Or, how about "Quickdraw McGraw" and his side kick "Bobbaloui" (sp)? I tried to get him to put down the guitar in favor of a pork chop launcher, but the networks didn't buy it.

Yup, anyone knows what happened to her?

Sushila's last login and post was on 2008-11-27. Last I heard from her, she was just incredibly busy. I sure do miss her good nature... makes the rest of us all look like demons.

Likewise (http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost638881.aspx) and we're not the only ones (http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost638780.aspx) The restraint will disappear if he keeps on doing this.

I remember Sushilla very well. It's a pity she's not around much any more.
