Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • It's already the longest thread on this board, it happened a couple weeks ago I think, and at least a couple 100s of posts ago.

  • I'm hoping we can get it to 100 pages. Then it should die. Horribly. Suffering.

Or 'till we get "Overflow", "Truncate" errors:D

  • Steve should have the honour of posting the 1,000 post 😛

    Rodders...

  • I'd give that to Jeff... he's NOT paid to do all that, unlike Steve.

  • So either Steve with a list of people receiving their refund

    Or

Jeff with his role call of pork chop inductees!

    Rodders...

  • I doubt whatever server SSC is using could hold a complete list of everyone who has ever deserved one of Jeff's porkchops! There just plain isn't that much disk space on this planet! 🙂

  • Not a bad question, but does this guy ever read the posts that he's answering?

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost638650.aspx

Question was "I didn't start an explicit transaction, I don't have a backup, how do I get deleted data back?"

His answer: "Roll back the transaction or if you weren't running in a transaction, restore the latest backup"

This is not the first time...

So what?, only 2 people on that thread answered without reading (or understanding) the question.

Since when reading the full question a requirement of posting an answer?

    😀

Maybe it's time to make a netiquette article for helpers, not just OP! 😎

I got into a disagreement with him over something to do with indexes, I forget what, but he was flat out wrong and offering advice that was the opposite of what he should have been offering. In the discussion, it was pretty clear he didn't quite have a clue.

I'm ashamed to say, I'm guilty on that count. Several times I've spotted a phrase and just stopped reading and responded to what I thought the rest of the post was about. I hate having to post apologies, but I'll do it when I screw up.

I think we have all likely been guilty of this. Of course, we also rectify the situation when we find out.

You're not the only one. I did so earlier in the week in a comment about a correlated subquery.

The difference is that it's not common and we correct it when it's pointed out.

Anyone else think that a 'how to answer questions' article would be useful? If so, anyone interested in writing it?

Heh... now wait a minute... his avatar says he's a DBA {insert sound of stifled laugh}... how can you possibly think he's wrong? {insert sound of less stifled laugh and some snorting sounds try to hold it back}. Certainly, you must be mistaken... {insert sound of very loud gufaws} language barrier? {insert sound of chair shooting out from under me, body hitting flow, and absolutely uncontrollable laughter} 😛
