Great, just great. Now I've got to clean spam off the water cooler..... 😉
Speaking only for myself, I resent this intrusion into what is normally a fun forum. I take pleasure in following this Thread. I don't take pleasure in reading solicitations. If every vendor or potential vendor were to start placing advertisements disguised as posts here, the "conversation" would be overwhelmed and the very reason for continuing to drop by will be destroyed.
By the way, this site is sponsored as a community service by Redgate(tm), which I believe offers a competitive product to the one you are developing. Even if you never intend to charge for your editor, your post is bad form if for no other reason.
Please, don't take this personally, Matt. I'm sure you're a nice guy, just trying to get some feedback from people who are qualified to evaluate your beta.
Rest assured, I feel the same way about the robots who phone me at home and ruin a quiet evening.
And I feel the same about the little mini-commercials on TV that have a tiny cheerleader cartwheeling across the bottom of the screen right at the climactic moment of a very suspenseful movie.... because coming up this weekend is the national cheering championship finals!!... broadcast live only on (pick a channel).
And of course I resent the millions of online advertising gimmicks that consume atrocious amounts of bandwidth, etc, etc, ad nauseam.
Finally, I abhor the concept that any community is a "market" just waiting to be tapped, and pining for a new widget.
Apparently, I am in a foul mood and should seek solace in pork chops.
Anybody want to add to this list of pet peeves?

Matt,
The best way to have requested such help would probably have been to post your requests in the Anything the is NOT about SQL forum in its own thread. People would probably have seen it and read it there, and if interested would have followed up. Putting the post here my not have been the best way to make friends and influence people on this site.

Hey Bob & Lynn,
Please direct pork chops to me rather than Matt. We had a very interesting discussion on the site earlier, and it came up that he was working on a SQL Editor which he was looking for good people to look over. He seems like a good guy - a top 0.1% SQL coder as well from what I've seen.
So I'm afraid that as well as offering to take a look if I can get the time, I suggested he post here. I did intend to post an intro, but got side-tracked at work. I rather thought the great and good amongst you might be willing to help a fellow struggling SQL-er out.
My apologies to the thread if my advice to Matt was misjudged...

Not having taken the time to read all the posts in that other thread (I'm sure I know which one, as I have many emails that indicate you two have had an interesting chat going on), it may have been better had he been more specific in his introduction. That may have made things more palatable. Plus, you really should have posted something right after making that recommendation so we wouldn't have been caught off guard. Plus, my response was also based on Bob's response as well. It could be Bob really was just in a bad mood and took it a bit more personal than normal.

Paul and Matt,
I sincerely hope I wasn't too offensive.
As I said, it wasn't personal, I speak only for myself, and nobody else may mind at all. I'm just an angry American who has been marketed to within an inch of my sanity. The rant was probably inappropriate overkill, given that you told him to post here, so I will apologize and put the pork chops back in the freezer.
But if he had just been googling for SQL websites and spamming, then I would have no regrets 😉
Bedtime here. Hope you guys have a good day.

You're right Lynn - and I did mean to post an introduction...but life got in the way I'm afraid. Sorry.
Many of you might recognise Matt's name from the forums - he's been fairly active of late.
We did have a good discussion 😀

Paul, no problem, been there, done that, have the t-shirt. It's one reason I try to do some things as soon as I can in an effort to keep life from getting in the way where I can.

It's all good, Bob - totally my error
Now. Can I interest you in any double-glazing?
edit: Thanks, Lynn

Hello all - I've been informed this is the place to post up a request for some really experienced SQL Server users... 🙂To cut a long story short - I'm writing a new T-SQL editor and I need to put it in the hands of some people such as you to try and get some feedback... There is an overview document which shows the functionality (just a bunch of pictures in a word doc really) @ http://www.atlantis-interactive.co.uk/SQLE_Overview_1.4.688.zip . If that gets your interest, then please could you PM me and I'll give you a link to the beta.
Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon
Matt
Matt, I downloaded your doc and I found it interesting. You did a very good job, your SQL Everywhere looks cool, but, if my opinion is of your interest, I would never pay for it and probably I would never use it even if free.
SSMS has most of those features and comes for free. I would rather look into coding SSMS add-ins if you want your tool to become popular.
Personally I hate opening lots of windows and I would like everything to stay in its place. I think the place for SQL code is SSMS.
Just my two cents and my negligible personal opinion.

Sorry guys! I didn't mean to be on bad form or anything - just I know that a lot of you guys are really experienced people whose opinion I've come to respect from reading your many posts on the forums. Please feel free to totally ignore!
And I'm sorry I didn't spend long on the introduction - I am in the UK so it actually *was* 3:09AM when I posted, and I wasn't massively on top form!
Humblest apologies.
Move along, nothing to see. Except the free pork chop stall. That's just to the left.
