Are the posted questions getting worse?

What's worse than OP too lazy to search how to do something simple and asking in the thread?

OP that send you a PM asking the question.

    Nevermind, I found it.

I refrained from saying exactly what I was thinking.

    Here's his question:

    Hi Alvin,

    Thanks for your response.

can you provide me the query to triggrt the agent job from stored procedure.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards.

OP that send you a PM asking the question.

I typically copy the PM and put it in the thread (if I can remember where it is) with a note to please post additional questions to the thread so others can help and benefit from the discussion.

I get e-mails and PMs like that. My response is always, "post it on the forums, that way I'm not the only person who can help you".

Yep. Same here. Although I've only received three or four of those.

So, what was the question and how did you handle it? I've just started ignoring requests for help sent via PM. I don't even bother responding to them anymore.

Yup, I've gotten enough of these that I ignore. Now if I get a PM saying, "Hey, I posted this, would you take a look?" that's a different story entirely.

    Yeah, those are fine.

And I don't have a problem with people asking me personally for help, I just prefer to do so via the forums anyway.

  • I realize I only gave a partial answer, but to essentially be called a liar? Anyone else want to tackle this one?

  • Can't get there, Lynn. I just came close to calling an OP a liar. My patience is exceedingly thin today.

Looks like this thread is the one. Guy's not the most polite in the world, but I don't think he meant to call anyone a liar. Just didn't understand the explanations being given. This is not at all in the same category of the SkipJackass incident.

Yep, that's the one. I fixed the link in my post.

As far as the liar part, that is my interpretation of his reply. It was his way of denying my simplistic explanation as if he "knew" I was wrong. Of course, after further testing I think he has come around, and that is what actually makes things great. Plus having several others providing support as well may have helped convince him.

  • Do none of these people know how to google a problem before they post? I've had a couple that their resolution was already posted in another thread HERE on SSC.. But nope, have to answer it again because they are lazy.. grrrrr...

Heh... now you know why some of us write articles. And having the links in our sigs is better than "LMGTFY". 😛

Depends who's making the request and how it's worded.

I have one guy who used to post to threads I was involved in saying "Please answer this", usually combined with a PM at the same time saying the same thing. Usually it was a thread I'd looked over and couldn't answer.

When, one day, he posted saying "I know this is the wrong way to ask this, but please answer this ..." I kinda lost my temper and gave him a snappy reply.
