My recent stance is if someone wants to be stupid, I'll let them... there are too many good people who want or need our help. If we could just get everyone to take the same attitude and stop helping folks like that recent moroff with the Bill O'Reilly bobble-head in his pocket. I was totally flabbergasted that anyone helped on that thread.
This reminds me of one of my favorite sayings: You can't fix stupid...:w00t:

Thing is, even an idiot deserves a chance to repent. I still have another cheek to turn, and perhaps he will make an effort next time. It is worth a try and see what happens. All that can happen is that he continues to be who is instead of who he could be.

Lynn, I'm sending you a can of halo polish for Christmas.
You must use it constantly and in large quantities.

Hey Jeff,
If you can spare a minute, would you mind revisiting this topic and double-checking me? I improved on the performance, but something doesn't feel right.

just started to go through some of the forums, and yes they are getting a lot worse, started to answer one about how do I copy over the logins from another server after you have done a restore. and then I saw the immortal words. restore the master database on the new server and my motivation for answering the question just suddenly nosedived, so far down everything around me went dark.
I know there are genuine people out there, who do want to know, and I enjoy doing my bit. But some questions and like triple posting with the same bloody question.

Those are actually the ones I like to be involved in because you not only get a chance to educate the OP, but also the person posting bad advice so hopefully they won't post it again.

Plus correcting the bad advice helps all those numerous people who run across the thread via google but never post. Otherwise they're maybe going to take that bad advice as if it was the way to do things.

Yay. ISP down, again. This time their main basestation is down, affecting every single one of their customers. It's been down since around 3am this morning, eta until repaired, unknown.
And they wonder why they're losing customers.....

3G card + laptop. intended for when I'm traveling, but works great with the primary ISP is down (which is not an infrequent occurrence)
Looking forward to Feb when I can boot these guys out and get an ADLS line installed.

What's worse than OP too lazy to search how to do something simple and asking in the thread?
OP that send you a PM asking the question.

So, what was the question and how did you handle it? I've just started ignoring requests for help sent via PM. I don't even bother responding to them anymore.

I get e-mails and PMs like that. My response is always, "post it on the forums, that way I'm not the only person who can help you".
