Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • I don't have a personal blacklist, but I'm happy to walk away from a post/thread if someone can't respond or maintain a sense of decorum.

and of course I get called when Lynn/Jeff/Gail/etc has an issue

We'll have to wait and see. Future posts may (or may not) prove otherwise. Of cousre if he continues like he has I'd be surprised to see many of us regulars pitching in to help. He may start getting more of the newbies stepping in instead.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've seen enough. He can get help from Bill O'Reilly but he'll never get help from me ever again.

I don't understand why 3 different people tried to help after his initial rude comment. Paul White rendered the only correct answer on that thread. 😉

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

Ah, that's a good one. I think the issue with that one is due to language. I think you guys have the answer covered though. I thought about posting one using a numbers table to parse the delimited column and then return where =2 but no need.

Well, it remains to be seen if we got it or not. I didn't understand the question, but his response seemed to point towards my answer.

Lynn tries to work with everyone. 😉

Aren't there a few that have made even your personal black-list?

You are right, to a point. But it seems I still get sucked in and help them. Particularly when I see them being led astray by someone providing bad advice. Can't seem to help it. Pretty sure that happens to most of us. I don't think any of us have a permanent black-list, but I may be wrong based just on Gus's comment on that other thread.

I have a list with two people on it. That guy, and one person who was trying to use me as an unpaid contractor about a year ago. I answered a couple of complex situations with fully coded and documented solutions, and he just kept posting more. Finally, after the third time, I spotted what was going on, and just stopped posting there.

This guy, Skippack (or whatever he's calling himself now), I just found too offensive for human contact. It wasn't the first statement, I can forgive that, but the second one. I definitely don't want someone to get the idea that behaving badly is a solution.

I have a feeling that it was his second comment to upset more people than the first, but that one was truely uncalled for as well. I haven't seen any activity on that thread today, so not sure if he has read my last reply as of yet. He may have, just hasn't responded.

  • Looks like he's been on. Changed his name to Express12. Like that will keep him off peoples radar! 😉

I don't think anyone yet has accused the guy of being a genius. "Brillant" maybe (if you're familiar with TheDailyWTF.com), but not a genius.

Never mind what permutation of screen name he's using... I ain't no Sherlock Holmes, but it didn't take much digging to find this guy's real name, address and phone number (unless he's deliberately trying to make someone else look bad). Started with user profile on SSC, noting data disclosed there.

BTW, I just took a look at the member's posts and find this bit of snippiness posted last year. Guy definitely has a history.

If he wants a "do over", then that's fine by me. I'll help just about anyone who needs it and can be civil for a few minutes.

What I will not do is to encourage someone to be rude or discourteous by helping them *while* they're still being rude. I've learned the hard way that when you're dealing with a dog that bites the hand that feeds it, then you must stop feeding that d*mn dog until it stops biting. Otherwise you are just teaching it to bite everyone else as well.

Haven't been there for a fair while - but the Paula Bean story sticks in the mind. Very appropriate, and a nice reference.
