Hey, I just noticed that I broke 8000! Woo-hoo!
So let's see,... oh, Lynn just passed 9000?!?
OK, ok, ... so I am just 5,300 points behind Gail? And 8,500 points behind Jeff?
WTF?!?! Jeff's farther ahead of me now than when I started a year and a half ago???. :w00t: And he's writing a freaking book, for Pete's sake!
That is just seriously wrong! You people need to stop and smell the roses. Slow down and spend more time with your families! Maybe take a year off and visit katmandu or something. Because otherwise I'm *never* going to make it into the top 5!
I mean, I'm posting from the doggone hosptal and I'm still falling behind. I do NOT want to still be doing this after I am dead! (I'm not sure if can get the hook-up!)
Steve I think that you need to reign these people in! put somekind of daily limit on them or something. Steve? ... Steve, are you listening? OMG, Steve just broke 20,000?!?!?! Arrgghhh!!!
😛

Poor Mr (it sure doesn't sound like a Ms) Jibber Jabber will probably not realize for a while that he's starving the goose that laid his golden egg. A quick look at the member's posts made it clear to me that SSC is not a learning resource for this fool, but rather a source of unpaid help. The TOP vs MAX question was posted multiple times. Other questions posted looked to be the sort of thing that someone who's been in the field for a few years (based on dated joined SSC) should either already know or realize can be answered with a Google or BOL lookup. And although I didn't look at ALL the posts, I saw no effort to help others, only pleas for assistance.
Although I've never had the pleasure of slamming the door in his face (figuratively, of course), I'm with Gus now in making note not to ever succumb to the temptation to try to help.

How about posting a list of "stroppy" posters?
I'd hate to accidentally help anyone whose is rude and ungrateful or just plain unwilling to make an effort themselves.
Anybody who is willing to give up their time to solve problems for others deserve thanks, not abuse.
I don't have quite so much of an issue with those who don't post full DDL etc in the first place... I suspect some of those who don't, aren't sure how to do it, or are under so much pressure to fix the problem that they don't have time to sit back and do things properly. But then there are those who just plain refuse to put in the effort, and it's these I have no time for.
Edit. Added disclaimer below
PS. I don't count myself among those who spend a lot of time helping others, but when I do find the time to post, I'd rather make sure it's not helping someone who has abused those who do.

I don't think such a list should be posted. I'm not going to tell anyone who they should or shouldn't help. If you (speaking plural here) choose not to help some who has acted in a manner that is rude and insulting, that is your choice.
I choose to continue to try help while at the same time trying to show the individual the error of their ways. I will strive (even if I fail at times) to remain professional in my dealings even if I do come here to the water cooler to vent my frustrations. Hopefully by treating them in this manner they may change how they act as well. Unfortunately, we know that won't always work, but hey, if you don't try you'll never know.

Lynn answers people that I won't. I answer people that Jeff won't. Jeff answers ones that I won't, etc.

Agreed... and anyone who sees the error of their ways would be removed from my "stroppy list", and I would deal with them in the future... but I have to draw my personal line at someone who seems to think the right way is to abuse someone who tries to help, and seems proud that they have got what they want by doing so.

I've never been in favor of any kind of blacklisting feature: too easy to get on it, too hard to get off, way to easily abused.
I think that some simple rules of thumb work best here: If you see someone behaving badly, don't reward them with what they want. If in doubt, check their history (bad actors are not hard to spot). When they act conciliatory, then go ahead. I don't think that it is too much to ask of anyone, remember, manners are free, they don't cost a thing.

lol... Actually expected something more like this: I answer people that Jeff won't, Jeff answers people I won't, etc., Lynn tries to work with everyone. 😉

Aren't there a few that have made even your personal black-list?

You are right, to a point. But it seems I still get sucked in and help them. Particularly when I see them being led astray by someone providing bad advice. Can't seem to help it. Pretty sure that happens to most of us. I don't think any of us have a permanent black-list, but I may be wrong based just on Gus's comment on that other thread.

I don't have a permanent personal black list, though do have a couple people on the 'I'm not helping them until they change behaviour' list. Currently it contains the PhD wannabe and a poster over at SQLTeam.

O Lynn, merciful patron Saint of Patience, tell us where we have failed.Have we not asked the OP for data?
Have we not shown the OP the link to Jeff's article on forum etiquette?
Have we not written for them an example of how to provide data?
Yet still our cries and pleas go unheard.
Deliver us from the Dark Side which feeds us with frustration.
Deliver us from broken keyboards, and keyboard patterns embedded in our foreheads.
Deliver us from pork chops which fly by night.
So say we all.
Heh... nice poem. So say we all... 😉
