Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Barry,

Really sorry to hear about the health issues. Get well soon. And as Grant said, you need to be able to make it to PASS so we can meet.

  • Barry - sorry to hear about your back 🙁 Get well soon!

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

Persistant was she to get you to write bad code, hmm.

  • You gotta love it. He passes out a solution that performs faster AND (to me) reads simpler. But no, they still want him to rewrite "their" code.

  • I can't help it... I gave her a derived table with which she can do a group by on. I have no idea if it will work (no easy access to SQL Server to try it out!) but if it works I shudder to see what it does to the database... :crying:

It certainly makes no sense to me.

You did? Where on that post did you do this? All I see is something about not being able to do a group by in the presence of an outer join.

I guess it really doesn't matter... she's hell bent on doing it her way.

I removed my original answer after a bit of research. Well, I learned something at least 🙂

  • O Lynn, merciful patron Saint of Patience, tell us where we have failed.

Have we not asked the OP for data?

Have we not shown the OP the link to Jeff's article on forum etiquette?

Have we not written for them an example of how to provide data?

Yet still our cries and pleas go unheard.

Deliver us from the Dark Side which feeds us with frustration.

Deliver us from broken keyboards, and keyboard patterns embedded in our foreheads.

Deliver us from pork chops which fly by night.

    So say we all.

ROTFLMAO !! This is good Bob. I only wish I could come up with things like this! Great way to start the day, with a big smile. 😉

  • You know what everyone was saying about bad answers... well, take a gander at the following Microsoft KB:

XL97: Data Not Returned from Query Using ORACLE Data Source

And I refer you to Method 2:

    ---

Method 2: Move Your Mouse Pointer

If you move your mouse pointer continuously while the data is being returned to Microsoft Excel, the query may not fail. Do not stop moving the mouse until all the data has been returned to Microsoft Excel.

NOTE: Depending on your query, it may take several minutes to return the results of your query to the worksheet.
