*Woot* Just got TechEd evaluation scores. Bar one comment, very nice!

Congrats, but of course exactly what I'd have expected for you, barring the one negative comment.;-)

Comment essentially said that I need to stop making jokes because they're not funny (odd, people in audience were laughing), that I need to be more confident and stop trying to impress the audience.

    Oh well.... Can't please everyone....

Humor is subjective. In some people's cases, it needs to be subjected to a baseball bat.

    Sounds like a wanker.

Did you get any constructive criticism? That's the stuff I live for, when someone actually has useful insights, not just "You did great" or "You stink."

    Hey! I resemble that remark!

  • Don't you just love these? Of course when it starts, they don't bother to provide data that is represetative of the problem they are trying to solve.

Hey, now I really like the avatar you have right now (2009-08-19 11:12 AM MDT).

  • Glad you like it, Lynn.

Steve: Suggestion for new functionality... name/avatar history. 😀

Does that make the slightest sense?

Yes, it did. There is probably something I'm not connecting with sub-queries so I'll dig into that. Thanks for the direction!

That would be nice... but in Bob's case, Steve would have to devote an entire disk to keep track of all of his avatars! :w00t:

  • Awwww... that's not true... I've got a couple thousand... errr dozen at most.

Nothing really useful. Couple "learned a lot", "good information", etc. Several compliments. Nothing that I can use to fix actual problems.

I think next time I do a local presentation I'll bribe my colleague to attend (if he's in the same city) and give some useful feedback.

Or video it, and review the video yourself. It's amazing what you'll note when you watch yourself in action. Sounds narcisistic, but it's really useful.

"Oh my God! I can't believe how many times I said 'um'!"

    or

"Why was I blushing during that part?"

    or

"My fly was down the whole time?!?"

    or

"I really need to pay attention to the audience. Half of them fell asleep while I was talking about b-tree structures, and I didn't even notice!"

Watching yourself on video can be very, very interesting, and it's a great way to smooth out any rough parts.

And, if you want, you can send copies of the video to other people you want critiques from.

Do that and I'll probably be so depressed I'll never present again. 😉

Party time next time I see my Lead (probably next week), I'll make sure he pays.

I scored best whiteboard session of the entire conference and best breakout session of the DAT track. :w00t: :w00t:

Somehow, that just doesn't surprise me. Nice job!

First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

I agree. I can take criticism from others, but if I had to critique myself... game's over, time to go home.

    It can definitely be brutal.

Studies have shown that people in the top 10% of their field are usually overly self-critical.
