Or we could just go back to flat files. Screw relational AND hierarchical databases. Here's a suggestion: we could come up with a better language for working with our flat files. It should be a business friendly language. So we could call it something like Common Busiess Oriented Language.
Shouldn't we also have some kind of Report Program Generation language as well?
I'm sorry, I'm too young to get the joke... 😛

The joke is REALLY old school. I cut my teeth on RPG II on an IBM System 32 back in the late 1970s.
So far as I know, RPG of some form still survives in the AS/400 family.
But while we're at it it, we should also plan on creating some data file utilities and perhaps defining a systems network architecture.

Bob, it appears you may be just a bit older than I. I learned RPG on a system 36. The language does indeed still exist in some form on the AS400 family. I last programmed on there about 8-10 years ago and the language had evolved into RPG IV at that point - not sure where they're at today. It was a little clumsy but worked well. I hadn't even thought about DFU in years - what a flash back. Makes me feel older than I already did....

Forget about RPG on the iSeries (new name for AS400), someone wrote an RPG.NET at least back for .NET 1.1.
I never had the "joy" of programming in RPG although one of my first jobs was converting some RPG programs to VB6 (the database had been moved to SQL Server).

Hey Steve, check out this guys posts (http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Search1-0-2.aspx?SessionID=euwat2555c1qqdnch3bhfpq1&SortBy=2&SortOrder=1) both have turorials as Word docs attached. I didn't read the docs, but did suggest they submit them as articles. You may want to contact them.

I am trying to imagine what the forms for RPG.NET would look like.
The mind boggles :w00t:

I'm feeling a bit stupid. I thought RPG = Role Playing Game.

Wow, and I thought you were old enough to remember the programming language too!

While I may be that old, I did get my start in IT a little later than most people. I went through Uncle Sugar's OJT and a brief film career first.

Role Playing Game
Rocket Propelled Grenade
Report Program Generator
Reasonable and Probable Grounds
And more, I'm sure.
One could even say, "In the RPG, I fired an RPG at the guy who was programming RPG, which was RPG for my arrest!" (Same sequence as above.)
