504 Gateway Time-out The server didn't respond in time.
I get this error an estimated 90% of the time. I know now to simply hit 'back' in the browser and refresh the page – as far as I remember, my post has always been successfully posted when doing this.
I do hit back button and refresh but
1/ you shouldnt have to
2/ if you dont and resubmit it likely spawns dup posts
Horrible user experience, however.
agreed, not great

The 504 gateway error is annoying. So far the posts went through

And when I click on an email post alert (just now did it), it took me approximately 7 pages back on this thread instead of to the post directly.
I've gotten use to replying and finding myself back a few pages on the thread I replied to. I didn't realize email alert links were doing this as well again.

Dear Steve Jones...
I forget how long it's been since this site was moved to WordPress but it's been a long time. Those of us long-timers that are left (not many of us left) have been really patient and true to the cause. There's a whole lot of functionality that has been broken or wanting since the day of the move.
Can we PLEASE get the folks at Redgate to fix all the issues with these forums and make some suggested improvements that might bring back some of the heavy hitters and other former long-timers? PLEASE? I'll be happy to field test and can also supply some of the possible causes of issues. I'm sure others on this thread would be willing to pitch in, as well.
Ever since the migration to WordPress I have pretty much just given up coming around here much. It is so buggy and painful to use. Sadly that move really took the wind out of the sails of a killer forum for me.

As it did for so very many.
And thank all of the rest of you folks for posting confirmation of some of the issues the "favorite" being ....
... followed closely by the fact that you don't get to the correct page when clicking on an email (that's mostly because spams are not counted as posts) and the dup entries caused by the first post on subsequent pages not showing up because one team apparently used "zero based" counting and the other team used "unit based counting".
There are other issues like the post menu being seriously incomplete, the double spacing in code and other windows, the "quote" response not being true to WYSIWYG, and a ton of other problems that didn't exist on the earlier forums.
And the editor for submitting articles is a similar pain for different reasons but I'd rather concentrate on the problems with the forums before we get to any of that. Oh... and don't forget how many of the links to older articles still don't work or, when you get to them, look nothing like the original. Again, though... those can wait until they fix the forum software... hopefully, very soon.
Please, Steve... we've heard all the "reasons" for years... please have them fix the forums like they were supposed to do before they released to the public.

Sadly just trying to load the site to see Jeff's response I got that stupid timeout error. It took until the third try for the page to finally load. No wonder people don't come around here much anymore.
By far my favorite thing about SSC was the environment of discussion and learning. Unlike the other options where you are only allowed to provide an answer, teaching and actual learning are actively discouraged.

it’s pretty obvious that Redgate decided that the revenue from SSC vs. the cost doesn’t add up.

Sadly, I'm one of the many who had the "wind taken out of sails" that Sean and Jeff refer to.
It was, IMO, the absolute best SQL Server forum in the world until a release schedule and search engine optimization apparently became more important than functionality. Yes, the 504 errors, the links not navigating to the correct page, posting a reply navigating back several pages, having to submit posts more than once to be posted, etc. are all PITAs. However, when I couldn't even post code and have it formatted properly, that was the final straw for me.
To make it even more sad, I was one of the testers for the new site while it was still in beta. I found a bunch of issues and sent them in. They were NOT fixed in the version that got released.
In my SQL Saturday presentations, I frequently criticize when management cares more about deadlines than security, as it leads to a great many vulnerabilities and subsequent data breaches. Whatever the approach is to testing, schedules, security and releases, it says a lot about the company as a whole.

Agreed 100%, sir! Over the years, I learned a lot, met many people (including you, Eirikur and Mike), got to grieve over a dead ERP 😉 and explored different approaches to many things - all because of this site. The approach to learning that the site fostered is one I just haven't found elsewhere. It also attracted many highly intelligent and very thoughtful people, who invested time in teaching others. When helping others becomes more and more frustrating and time-consuming, less people will do it.

I've never got the error when posting. The other issues that have been brought up are annoying. But IMHO this is still the best place to come to for answers or to learn something new.
I may not hit this site as much as I used to, I think I'm just a little busier than I was back then. I'll keep coming back until I'm not working in IT, even with all of the flaws. 🙂

I've found the more friction there is using the site the less likely I am to visit it. This site has gotten slower, there's bugs with not pulling up the right pages like on this thread, the layout changes to make it more mobile friendly make it less browser friendly etc....

are you sure it’s what you can call “mobile friendly”?
scrolling through mostly empty spaces with huge headings to find something shown in super small font, and then trying to find and hit with you finger tiniest “Reply” - that’s opposite to mobile friendly, as to me.
