Ok, I’m officially envious.
how well thongs must be organised at your place, if this kind of events come as a surprise for you?
i can hardly remember when things went as planned. Well, if you can name it “planned”.
Heh. As my team lead has commented, all too often the people behind these sort of endeavors don't bother to bring in the technical side of things (us) until after they've already been "writing checks they can't cash" for the pet project of the quarter...
The good news is, well, if this doesn't get done in time (as long as it's not something that actually *IS* my fault,) my team lead and supervisor will have my back.

Isn’t it a kinda shame to have such queries exposed on a specialised site of SQL Server professionals?
Could we form a group of volunteers who could fix this terrible mess?
OH gods, it has a WHERE 1=1
clause too. ??

Ha!
Think about poor me. I work for them and shriek when I see this stuff.
However, a community approach ain't a bad idea. Organizing it is the hard part.

SQL Saturday in Edinburgh - 1st Feb, anybody from here thinking about going?
Haven't been to Edinburgh since I was about 14, but planning to go there next year (though when it's a bit warmer). Bit far to travel from Essex though for the event, but if I was more North, I'd very likely consider it.

Ooo, I like the new Report function, which shows how many times it has been (prior to you click the function, then it changes to Unreport and doesn't tell you any more).

I've started to ask broadcasters and podcasters if they would publish a list of their questions.
Do you know of anyone doing this already?

I wonder if more of us ought to be using UTC or at least datetimeoffset for applications. There are more and more that are crossing time zones and it definitely causes some issues for things like DR if you haven't accounted for movement of the instance.
This statement wasn't spurred on by the fact that SSMS 18.3.1 now tells you the complete time as a datetimeoffset(7)
in the Messages Pane was it, Steve? Or just a "happy" coincidence.

Was working on a pretty complicated gaps and islands problem with multiple anchors and wanted a couple references to help me focus the problem. I remembered Dwain Camps had a great article about the Gaps and Islands problem. RIP old friend. Even from beyond your knowledge and help has been appreciated greatly once again.
For anybody who has never read his article on the topic it is one of the best ones out there. Check it out for yourself.

Coincidence. Been talking to lots of people in other countries lately, so time is sometimes a challenge.

We're actually heading to Edinburgh for a couple of days at the end of this month. I've never been but Mrs B was born there and she loves it.
SQL Saturday looks unlikely however. We're off to Iceland at the end of February so I think another weekend in Edinburgh would be a trip too far.
