Is it my impression or we are getting more cases of "professionals" asking to be supplied with fully functional scripts to solve their issues and at the same time getting annoyed when we supply them with alternatives or links to code that while not fully what they asked for can be adapted by themselves to do what they need?
https://www.sqlservercentral.com/forums/topic/power-shell-script-to-add-a-user-to-sysadmin-server-role-on-many-sql-instances - the link I supplied has functional powershell code to read excel file, process it and connect to SQL server and do something with the results from Excel. Yet not enough for the OP.

Best to ignore the post and everyone else do likewise 🙂

YIKES. One of the few instances in which I'd like to be able to downvote something.
I did report the last post for being inappropriate. That was just out of line.

Wow what a complete moreoff. They feel so entitled for others to do their work them that they get angry and condescending when somebody points out they are a lazy sack of potatoes. Sheesh....damn snowflakes.

Honestly, though, I'd probably push back at the notion of adding a user to thousands of servers' sysadmin role. If the servers had been set up correctly in the first place, and the user truly did need sysadmin access, I'd just add them to the windows group that already has sysadmin access.
One change done in Active Directory.
That's assuming this user actually needs sysadmin access to thousands of servers (which is what the OP is saying and in itself makes me worry).

Good reply Brandie 🙂 I wish I had the communication skills for that.
I do see the point of adding an account to all instances - I would hope it is a AD group and not an individual account but that wasn't specified and I didn't bother asking - it is their system and their problems if they do it incorrectly from a security point of view.
This task could even be easily done on SSMS with sqlcmd mode and a sql table holding the server list and account to add to the server. but it does require a good DBA knowledge of the tool and a bit of imagination of what can be done with it 🙂

I responded, and while I think the OP overreacted, keep in mind there are people trying to solve a problem. They have a narrow view, and they often balance other tasks. That's not to say you need to give them an answer, but give them a hint (you did) and ignore if they get upset that you might have suggested they have the wrong approach.
With regard to go or bad idea, it's nice to see your opinion, but if the OP disagrees or gets upset, rather than continue to argue, perhaps leave it be.

No kidding. Climate change is producing more and more snowflakes every day. Do we know who has the porkchop launcher this week?

If I cop to it, will I at least get a pork chop before getting locked up?
And can someone pass me the keys to DBCC TIMEWARP so I can get out of jail?

I was on Poland recently, but no one let me drive a tank... as far as I can recall.
