I don't see an upcoming SQLSaturday in Pittsburgh... for Sept, I only see events in Boston and Memphis in the US. Has it been announced yet? No, we always have it whatever weekend falls around October 1st.  It's not been scheduled yet.

...and it is an amazing SQL SATURDAY. Kudos to the organizers of this wonderful event.

    Ditto that!

  • Wow. So apparently I learn something new every day with SQL Server. Yesterday, I accidentally learned that if you highlight a section of code in a SSMS query window and do a find-replace on the "current document", it will only do the find-replace on the highlighted section and leave all other code on the current document as is.

That's a fun thing to know.

The selection option is really handy, and something I wish ADS had. The Regex Support is very useful too (the .* option in the window).

Do you know about holding down the Alt key while using the select the same position on  multiple lines? it's super useful (you can hold down shift to highlight too).

  • Yeah, I saw someone post about that one several months ago and I've been using it ever since.

Previously we'd been doing that in UltraEdit. It was nice to know I didn't have to cut-n-paste between programs to do that.

It's the Alt key that allows block selection.

Agreed. Pittsburgh is the best SQL Saturday I've ever attended!  They do a amazing job.

  • And that is no slight on the other SQL Saturdays.  It takes a good bit of dedication and good planning to make an SQL Saturday and I've not seen a bad one yet (hats off to all you folks that made them happen!).  With one exception for a parking problem, Cleveland, Columbus, Cinncinati, and Colorado Springs (funny how they all start with a C) and Providence (haven't been there in a while, going this late summer) have all been great .  Pittsburgh and Cleveland have been my "mains" that I've attended every year for the last 5 or 6 years or so.

What version of SSMS? I don't experience that. But it does sometimes change the drop down for "Look in" to "Selection".

Not thinking about work will be easy.   Not thinking about SQL Server will be difficult because I've so much to do.  Ed Wagner and I are working on a "Black Arts" of Index Maintenance precon that we hope to debut for the upcoming Pittsburgh SQL Saturday.  If you've not seen the sessions I've offered on the same subject at multiple SQL Saturdays (next one is Columbus, OH in June), let me assure you that the precon will change pretty much everything you've ever learned or thought about index maintenance, if I do say so myself.

    Well that's just DUCKY!

Signed up (hotel and everything!) for this SQL Saturday, and looking at the sessions, I need to figure out a way to be in two places at once, at least once...

The wife and I are driving down Friday afternoon, then she's dropping me off at the venue and wandering off to amuse herself the rest of the day (probably she'll head over to the Zoo)

Time to start figuring out my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice sessions for each block!

Is that a good thing, a bad thing, or are you just "quackin' up"? 😀

Just to be sure, are you talking about Columbus or Pittsburgh?  I'm assuming "Columbus" because i don't believe Pittsburgh has announced yet.

  • Pittsburgh SQL Saturday should be appearing on the PASS website today?  It's October 5th.  Same place.

  • GAAAAHHHH.

So apparently those wonderful April updates affect McAfee as well as the others. We've been chasing issues for the past few weeks and it wasn't until we started looking at the KBs that we noticed this wonderful set of links:

  • Oh, and this:

    https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB91467

“With the Windows April 2019 updates, the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS) operating system process CSRSS.EXE performs file I/O more frequently while fulfilling LoadLibrary requests from other processes. This new behavior introduces deadlocks in the Threat Intelligence Exchange (TIE) module for VSE.”
