Hah!
Great clip. And I'm afraid I could do the exact same with a real snooker table....

Hugo Kornelis - Thursday, January 10, 2019 10:09 AMThanks, Chris!I tried to contribute for your Isle of Wight challenge but I had to give up. Made two tries, both times I got an error after entering my credit card details and the authorization codes. An error without further explanation as to why.
Are there any other ways for me to contribute? (I don't have a personal PayPal account so that's not an option)
Hey Hugo, you're welcome. To be honest, I'd much rather walk around the coastline of a scenic island in late spring than attempt to play snooker for 24 hours!
I'm sorry you've experienced problems donating. We've now accumulated numerous donations from within and outside the UK so I suspect it was an early glitch in the provider's software. We've noticed a few in other areas, particularly registration. Perhaps give it a few days and try again if you wish. As an alternative I'd suggest you join us, but we already have a native Dutch-speaking SQL Server expert on our team - he's the nutter doing the 13 mile offshore swim π

I had to change my password at work today. I set it to a 12-character string with a mix of uppercase, lowercase, and numbers. When I came back from lunch, I was unable to log into my computer. I tried again making absolutely sure that I typed the password slowly to reduce potential typos. Still unable to log in. I ended up eventually locking my account and calling the help desk. It turns out the problem is that the password has to be exactly 8 characters. No more, no less.
First, why would anyone have a maximum password length set to 8 characters in this day and age? I can understand having a minimum, but not a maximum.
Second, when I enter a string that is too long, why does it not produce an error message?
Third, when you go to change the password, why doesn't it remind you what the policy is?

I've got a mainframe login that needs an 8 char password. It's not case sensitive though.

Some of the bank security stuff is a total joke. I like how they ask you to add security questions and the options are stupid things that would be readily accessible through public record or easily discovered via social media. Things like, "your favorite food". Seriously? Anybody who knows me knows it is bacon. Or city where you were born? Because that would be challenging to figure out for somebody else. I end up using my password tool to track these stupid questions and provide completely false answers because the real answers would make my account less secure, not more.

As for why the rule isn't enforced when you go to change your password, I'd have a talk with your domain admin (or whoever the enforcer is) about it. That's also flat-out silly and setting people up for failure.

Well, I have an advantage there. Drew is an alias, so any public record for "Drew Allen" will most likely refer to some other person and my legal name is so common it would be very difficult to match up a specific person with a specific birthplace.

Wow, things are stressing.
Work seems to be stabilizing at the moment, but they are talking about pimping me out to other parts of Parson to support MS SQL.
That is good, I think.
The hard part is coming tonight when I go out to the hospital as dad and I will be meeting hospice. Not sure what is going on at this time other than dad saying last night was not a good night.
