Are the posted questions getting worse?

As an architect I would adivse that you consider both the short-term AND long-term consequences of said actions 🙂  And by you I mean "your firend" of course 🙂

And, of course, the one way trip to A&E

Far away is close at hand in the images of elsewhere.

    So...
If someone's wife woke them up at 3am when they had to get up for work at 6am, because the toilet kept running, and the someone couldn't really get back to sleep after having to get up, turn the light on, take the top of the tank off, lift the float 1/8" so it would shut off, would they be legally in the clear if they woke her up at 7am on her day off and wouldn't let her go back to sleep?

    Asking for a friend...
    :doze:

Sure, as long as you share the results.

Well, my "friend" reported their results...
They chickened out / were too nice to actually follow through with the idea.

So the results are currently NULL

I wouldn't call continuing to have a heartbeat a NULL test result. 😀  It does clearly demonstrate the "happy path" for testing.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Legally speaking, the lawyers will tell you that you are in the clear. But they're also looking to profit from the end result of the "war of the roses" you are contemplating. There's no way to "win" this kind of thing, just fix the toilet, be the hero, deal with it.  Speaking of which, I need to get mine fixed, because I can't seem to bloody fix it for good.

  • Only just noticed this, but for those that still have 2012 instances and use SSDT, be careful about updating your version. I just noticed that V15.8.1 removes support for SQL Server 2012 and adds support for SQL Server 2019 Preview (Change Log for SSDT for Visual Studio 2017 (15.8.1)). The latest version to support SQL Server 2012 is V15.8.

Honestly, the removal of the support for 2012 surprises me, considering that tools like SSMS 2019 (preview) still supports SQL Server 2008.

  • ^^ Thanks for mentioning it. The second bummer is SSDT for Visual Studio 2017 (15.8.1) doesn't support designing packages that contain Oracle/Teradata source/destination. Use SSDT for Visual Studio 2017 (15.8).
Had my share today with having hidden columns exported involuntary with ssrs csv export. No problem when exporting to excel ...

What, you mean you can't read their mind, see their SQL setup, and divine the business rules it runs under from something like "please help query write faster?"

    Rookie.

  • REALLY?!?!  Maybe it's because it's Friday.

I'm having trouble logging into a system.  I wrote to the admin and told them I was having trouble logging in, mentioned that I had converted from a contractor to an FTE, and gave them both my old ID and new ID.  Their response was to ask whether I had recently had any changes in my ID, email, or employment status.  Did they even bother to read my initial email?

They read the first part, I am having trouble logging into a system.  The rest was just noise.

  • How about that the SQL Engine continues search for additional matches on a PRIMARY KEY after it finds it to see if there are other matches.  (head meet desk)
