Are the posted questions getting worse?

I can't decide if the posted replies here are just trolling the OP or what:  https://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/1998406/Automatically-avoid-error-inserting-into-identity-field
Although I think I'm leaning towards trolling...

There are currently 3 replies to the post - they all look like legit answers to me.  None of them are quick-n-easy solutions, but they will all work.

Nope, you're right, I mis-read the original question, missed the bit about "updating many tables."
Plus, OK, in all honesty I kinda was skimming the answers...

Now THAT is a short term memory problem.  I thought mine was bad.  At least I think I thought it was - I'm not sure now.

What were you talking about now, Chad?

And are you sure that's what you were talking about? @=)

  • OK, the weather is getting really weird around here...
A couple days ago, needed at least a windbreaker going outside.
Yesterday, open windows on the car for the drive home, and opened windows at the house, even left a couple open overnight...
This morning, open lots of windows in the house (work from home day) yet now I'm thinking about going around and closing all the windows as it's cooling down...

AND I just looked at the forecast and they're talking 80s on Saturday???
    WTH man?!?!

This sounds like British weather to me. It's either Grey outside, or it literally cannot decide what it wants to be from one hour to the next (late Feb/March was insane this year, went from  -10 (Celsius) to low 30's to -5 within the same month).

I do wonder if someone people don't subscribe the the topics they create, then when they come back they can't find their topic, they simply post a new one.  Of course, the person seems to not be the case, as they have either replied or marked a post as a solution since. :ermm:

I wonder how I would introduce that into my work life. "Oh sorry, I didn't do that work for you because I forgot where I put the database." I'm sure management will be fine with that. :hehe:

An old saying around here: "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it'll change."
Today is doing it's level best to prove that.
Case in point, I started my work day in shorts and no shirt.  Now I'm thinking about throwing on jeans and a shirt (gads I love working from home!)

I have seen all four seasons in the same day here.  I am beginning to think mother nature is just not taking her meds for her bi-polar condition.

I think the earth is finally getting tired of these pesky humans and has decided to start the next mass extinction. Changes to the earth are very slow but unstoppable.

  • At what point would you suggest that someone is no longer "new to SQL"? Would you suggest that, for example, someone who has been working with SQL Server for at least 2.5 years could still consider themselves "new to SQL"?

I suppose that depends on what they've been working on. For instance, someone who mainly does backups probably isn't experienced enough to write T-SQL. Or someone who only, during that 2.5 years, writes the occasional line of T-SQL (such as a C## dev). On the other hand, if someone's using that line as an excuse to not learn or retain what they've learned definitely needs to stop and woman up.

Well, if I used the Chief of Operations back at my first duty station while in the Air Force where he actually wanted new computer operators to wear a red "L" for the first six months, six months.
