So I've got a week long work trip coming up next month, and I'm already starting to plan out what to pack, how much cash to bring, where there is to eat around the hotel, etc...
I've sort of been working some of this for a few weeks now, I'm just sort of locking things down.
I've got another trip coming up in August (not work,) and I'm already working with the wife on planning what to pack, how to pack it, food plans, etc...

So, out of curiosity, how many of you start planning the details for trips weeks or months in advance?
    Things like packing lists, etc...

Booking flights, cars, hotels, months in advance. Everything else... Nope. Pack up the night before. Of course, I'm traveling 2-3 times a month, so most of it is packed already.

  • We have a trip planned for 4th of July which has been planned for 9 months. Have a trip in October that's been finalized (reservations for the dog in the kennel, whole kit n caboodle) for probably six months. Just found out yesterday that I might have to travel "sometime in October" across the country, already have the hotel picked out, car options and am subtly coercing my coworkers into scheduling things around timeframes that work for me.

And, although we haven't booked it yet, my son's next birthday trip (he just had one, by the way) is already in the works.

We're planners. My wife is the one who gets it all done, but everywhere we go is very thought out.

Oh, and I'm working on dinner plans with Jeff for July, so he's guilty too. haha!

I have an unsophisticated palette so something like a Red Robin or similar is just fine with me.  Even a bar that serves good burgers and "Bud in a bottle" is just fine with me provided that we can hear each other talk.

I think my wife enjoys the planning and arranging more than the trip.  We usually have things arranged months in advance.  We're planning on going to the South-West of France in the middle of May next year and she's already bought both the Lonely Planet and Rough Guides to France.  The fact that there's apparently a new edition of the Lonely Planet coming out before we go just means we get another copy later.  The only reason we have yet booked the flights is that they haven't been released yet :ermm:

I live with the wife (shocker, I know,) so it's not like we have much to talk about most of the time when we go out to eat, that we haven't talked about already at home or on the drive over.

For a moment, I thought that 28 degrees was way too hot for a beer. Then I remembered that you don't use Celsius. πŸ˜€
