Out of idle curiosity, anybody from here going to SQL Saturday Manchester?

    (Raises hand, points at schedule)

And I'll be in the audience.
It's a much better venue than the building they used in Princess Street - I wasn't going to bother last year until I saw the new location.

  • Besides me and Hugo, who will be at SQLGrillen on Friday?

Oh, and tune into  SQL in the City at around 2:20PM. I'm going to finish the execution plans book, live on the air: https://www.red-gate.com/simple-talk/blogs/sql-and-the-city-streamed-the-june-2018-edition/

    Damn! Missed it.

I guess I really need to finalize the about the tech editor section now, or else everyone will say that I was the botleneck all along.

No, I think he wants an answer. What I might do is in addition to "use a where caluse" do something like

    select a, avg(b)
     from a inner join b on a.year = b.year and a.month = b.month
    where a.year = 2018

Don't write the entire query, but give a small hint.

But I asked such an easy question!
just need to know how to get the version of SQL Server I'm running!!!
    :hehe:
(No that's not the question, no I don't know which topic he's talking about, yes I *DO* know how to get the version)

Obviously by checking the label on the installation disc.

Or the box it all came in from the store.

True story.  Back in the olden days, when you could first start downloading a program from the internet, I was going to purchase Symantec, it may have actually still been Norton, Anti-Virus.
There were two prices, one for a new license and one for a renewal.  I needed a new license, I had never owned it previously.

On the order page, they showed a picture of the box with the CD key highlighted.  You had to provide that to get the discounted rate.
Hmmm.  I wonder if this will work, my devious mind said.
It did.  I saved about $40.00.
Wonder how many license dollars Symantec lost on that.

That's long gone. The disc is still being used as coaster.

  • That feeling when you've got a Linked Server connection to a remote site who thought they had everything set up and you just needed to get your end set up, but they didn't have everything set up right so now your end works and theirs doesn't and the people who require the data from the remote site are calling you...
    :crazy::sick:

Yeah, that's what I've been dealing with for the last week and change...

The only saving grace is, my bosses and my customers that need this link understand that at this point it's out of my hands (and my bosses have been calling / emailing the POC on the remote end, plus I email the poor bastard fairly frequently.)

Sorry man, I feel for you when dealing with linked servers.  My problem tends to be somehow the network admins keep managing to screw up Kerberos and delegation so linked servers that used to work stop working and of course it's a database problem.
