But it will give Lynn and Gail such *joy* to deal with him / them / her!

  • Just a heads up: in today's newsletter, the "database pros who need help" section had 5 legit posts; the rest were all spam posts.

Having the spam in the forunm is bad enough. Advertising it in the news letter .... not the best idea!

  • Crud... I found a technical issue with my presentations on Indexes and the 10/30 method for defragging them.  My test harness was much too narrow in scope.  I thought GUIDs would be the worst possible index to fix and they're not.  I knew that there were a couple classes of indexes that were worse but it turns out that supposedly "normal" indexes are actually much worse.  I've had to pull all of my SQL Saturday submittals on the subject.  Totally embarrassing oversight on my part.

Far better you notice it now though, than doing a presentation and then someone else (shortly afterwards) proving you wrong. Plus, you've learned something, which is always invaluable too. 🙂

I'd offer to assist but not sure if I can find the band width at the moment.

  • Can't remember who mentioned the spam reporting tip (report the same thread 3 times), but it worked a charm last night.

  • The threshhold is 3 points, of which a report from most of you is 1. I get 3, so I try to tag them as I find them.

He's coming, but his presentation might lend itself to some serious heckling from the audience!

  • Ugh.
The joy of spending a day waiting for someone to get in touch with someone on their end who can hopefully resolve a connectivity issue to a remote (linked) server...
Can't use SSIS to pull the data across, the customer on this end needs it "live," and we'd still be stuck waiting for the connection problem to be resolved...
Even worse, I feel like I'm pestering the poor guy (who's just as stuck waiting to hear) on the remote end when I e-mail a "just touching base, any word yet," every couple hours.

My boss won't even take the bet that I'll finally hear from them at 10:45am tomorrow morning, just as I'm thinking about packing it in to go to the company picnic, that the teleconference to work the issue is scheduled for 2:30pm tomorrow afternoon...

    And I'm off on Friday...

  • Going to a picnic and taking a day off in the midst of issues... Am I sensing a serious lack of job devotion here???  😀

I can still go to Columbus but it will be sans the presentation.  You still interesting in meeting there Jonathon?  If so, I'll re-register (I unregistered because I no longer deserve the free lunch ticket).

Hmmm... I think this will be the first ever SQL Saturday I've gone to where I wasn't presenting.  Just might be an enjoyable thing!

Going to a picnic and taking a day off in the midst of issues... Am I sensing a serious lack of job devotion here???  😀

Well, the day off is the way my schedule is (8x days at 9hrs a day, 1x day at 8hrs, and one day off in every 2 week pay period,) and as for the picnic, if I do get the call about it before I've left, then I'm working the problem, not the picnic, so...
    😉
