Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Convenience stores in Louisiana have drive through windows where you can buy daiquiris, which they keep ready-made in big icee/slurpee machines. 😎

I used to see those in NC, Brew-Thru's. Literally a large building with a garage door on each end. Lined with coolers, you literally drove through the building, stopping and someone would come up, ask what you wanted and load you up.

    Amazing.

I wonder if they're still there...

There was a place like that in Jersey City. Loved it.

    Cruddy selection of beer though.

  • I'd post a thoughtful response, but I'm heading out for a Guinness.

  • A question for Lynn Pettis

I like the open space here in Colorado, even though Colorado Springs does seem to keep growing.

A long long time ago (no not the opening to a fairly tale) I worked for about a year in Pueblo across the highway from a steel mill that made nothing but barbed wire, and spent many an evening in Mexican bars quaffing tequila. Also helped to quarry the stone used at the Air Force Academy, enough of fond Colorado memories.

Now the question does the Broadmoor resort, with its figure skating ice rink and transplanted English Pub still exist?

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

The Broadmoor and The Golden Bee are still there, but the ice rink is gone. They built a new World Arena just off Circle and I-25. Can't remember how long ago this happened unfortunately.

And the steel mill was CFI, and they were bought out by another steel company, and I think it was finally shut down, but again, not sure when. I don't go to Pueblo very often, just about twice a year the last couple years to officiate at the Pueblo Rangers Sun Belt Soccer Tournament.

  • Jeff,

I sent the article to Steve this morning. Thank you for the feedback and the compliments! It makes doing the writing that much more fulfilling.

Properly cut? Since when do those in MI know meat? Aren't you more the cheese and beer crowd with your neighbors?

BWAA-HAAA!!!! We know meat plenty well... remember... Detroit is where the weak are killed and eaten. Also, we don't export our cows or pigs to other states... we either eat them ourselves, or we marry them. 😛 And, we save all the Soy bean and cheese curd for people who can't handle either.

We've also got a bazillion micro-breweries... Dead Frog... Buck... Squashed Toad... couple of others with interesting names. No pun intended, but I "steer" clear of most of those... I'm worried that "micro-brewery" really means "bacterial lab experiment" in Michigander speak.

To top it all off, we're actually a training extension of New England and a couple of other regions... this is where the best politicians "that money can buy" are trained before they go on to work for or run for President or in Congress or the House. We even import loser politicians from Canada... remember??? "And in 5 years, we're gonna blow you away...". Grandholm was spot on with that one. Oh yeah... almost forgot... when we elect a Governor from another country, we also let them import their trash to our state.

So... we actually know lots about meat... dead meat, fresh meat, stupid meat, imported meat, bad meat... and, how 'bout those Lions and Tigers? Now, there's some meat... we call that "road kill" up here. :hehe:

Man, I dunno what happened... Michigan used to be a really cool place to live...

  • I'm sure you're no worse off than most other states. Seems like civilization in general is declining a bit.

  • It's just getting over-crowded. Nothing a horseman or four can't cure, but be careful what you wish for.

I must be old, D&D used lots (and lots and lots) of six-sided dice. Now, Traveller, there were the decimal dice at work.

Which edition was that? I know West End's games used a d6 system (starwars), but I don't recall D&D using one

3rd Ed (which is what I play) is the d20 system. Hence the d20 is used for most rolls.

    1st & 2nd if I recall correctly.

But then I'm old & the memory is going. We used to play this Steve Jackson game called... Arena? that was all six-sided dice too.

I think you're talking about "Melee". Became the core for TFT (The Fantasy Trip) RPG. Was all d6 arena combat. There was a magic arena version too, which I think was called "Mage".

As for AD&D, I've played every edition, starting in the mid-70s. Currently DMing two games in 4th Edition. I've also played a lot of other RPGs, including a large number of the online ones (which I really don't consider RPGs, despite the name), like World of Warcraft, EverQuest, et al.

My favorites from Steve Jackson games are still Ogre and GEV.

Don't worry about it. The coming ice age will make all of that moot anyway. After the first billion or two die, everything will settle out a bit. (Just trying to cheer you up.)
