I don't know that I'd call it scary, more someone who has forgotten rule number 1 when trouble shooting something.
Always, always, always start with the basics even if you're *sure* they're correct.

I've got a nickel the SQL service account doesn't have access or sufficient access to the folder the MDF / LDF is in.

I do not think he understands that in any way.  Good answer, BTW.

True, but that could be more dependent on what his background is.  If he's more a developer than a "production" DBA, he's not had to deal with / fight with OS-level settings very much.

Hmmm, we're about to do something similar. SQL2008R2/WS2003 -> SQL2017/WS2016. Our test moves have been much simpler and without issues.

I usually like those days the best. Dramatically reduces the amount of stupid around me. 🙂

It only took me two queries to figure that one out...

I'm contemplating pranking my co-workers who aren't here...
Harmless things, like taping over the sensor on their mice, unplugging their keyboards, or unplugging their AC adapters...
Of course, payback, as they say, is a b**ch...
And I'm out of the office the next two days, giving them *lots* of time to arrange payback...

    Gather you don't read ASCII/HEX😀
Blue-tack under random keys on the keyboard works "wonders", honey or molasses could do the same, micro USB with a different OS, combined with slight changes in the bios (take a screenshot of the current desktop and use that as the background), nat port 80 to a keygen etc. The possibilities are endless :alien:

If they don't have laptops put a receiver for a wireless mouse on their system, randomly jiggle the mouse when they're working, fun for weeks if done right 😀

It's weird. Last week my wife was in Boston with my daughter. Other kid worked late and didn't come home a couple nights. Just me trying to work in silence and dogs staring at me. Very odd. I'm usually alone, but my wife pops in and out and kid usually home around 2-3.

On my telework days, I *have* to eventually turn on a radio or something, and ideally to a news or talk station or I start getting real antsy and can't focus on work.

At least, while I'm the only team member in the office, there's other people in the office from other teams, so there actually is *some* human contact, just not people I normally interact with much.
