Are the posted questions getting worse?

I know it's Friday, but can someone give me a hint here?

Yeah, it's Friday. But I like you enough to make the effort anyway. @=)

  • Boy the forums are getting buggier all the time. I have had several notifications this week that when I click the link it takes to the topic but that single post is the only one that displays. You then have to click on the link in the breadcrumbs to view the full topic. Very strange.

Yes, I've seen something like that but only with this thread.

Maybe it because the thread has taken on a life of its own.

Wow. He deleted the entire TRY CATCH thread too.

I find myself wondering if he's going to find his way over to Stack Overflow and change his mind about the "vicious comments" over here.

Either he went through and deleted everything, or he deleted his account and there's a cascade delete on the foreign key to the posts table, as his older threads have also been wiped:
    https://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/1890120/Using-Print-To-Debug-Stored-Procedures
    https://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/1888119/Using-Named-Transactions
    https://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/1885155/Execute-Stored-Procedure-With-Output-Parameter

I think I know this person. It's the same name as a person who worked here, and quit in semi-disgust because he didn't have every tool in the book to do all these wonderful things, and free reign to do them.
He left an unfinished (unstarted?) data warehouse design that's kind of being used.
A big giant SSIS package that used a SQL task to run SQL code to select into a bunch of flattened tables.

We were able to catch a few glimpses at about 30-35% but before it got even close to full we couldn't see anything for the storms rolling in. It was very creepy though how dark it got. All was not lost as I was able to experience how the darkness rolled in. And the actual eclipse part was much as I remembered it as a kid in grade school in the 70s. Hopefully in another 7 years I will be able to travel to view the totality (and it won't be cloudy).

I'm eying 2026 in Iceland. August, so possibility of eclipse and northern lights in one trip 🙂
That, or 2030 when the path of totality goes 270km south of Johannesburg.

I saw the full eclipse in 2002, spectacular!

Northern lights are truly amazing. We could see them occasionally when I lived in Seattle but the year I lived in Alaska we got to see them quite frequently. I like the idea of Iceland in 2026. Would really like to visit there someday anyway so why not do it during a great time!!!

I enjoyed the lights in Alaska when I lived there. It was cool.

When and where did you live there? I was outside Palmer in the mountains near Hatcher Pass. I was there from about April 88 - March 89.

    Juneau Douglas area around 04

    I did see that, thanks.

It's all good, the snowflake melted.

Yeah no loss as far I am concerned. Interesting how he states he has no experience at one point and another feels he needs to knock his ring on the table about being 50 and having multiple degrees in IT. Which one is it?

Obviously all he wanted was affirmation not help.

Sadly in my first response I stated the format of his error handling block look reasonable. Maybe if I had said that first and then mentioned that his code resembles my wife's favorite dish at Olive Garden he would have felt less offended. Just like you, I would have said the same thing in person. I didn't think my comment was rude, belittling or ego stroking.

No doubt it is a really good looking pasta dish.

I've seen the same thing on this thread, but not on any others.  It doesn't happen all the time either.

  • Anybody here in Houston or its surrounding environs? Are you safe? Is there anything we can do to help?

Not that you may be able to answer if power and internet are down... But if anyone here knows someone specifically in the area of all the flooding, who is it and what do you think we can do to assist remotely without making things worse?

People are going to need water, food, shelter, but logistics are going to be overwhelmed. Donate to something like the above, most likely. If there's someone local, send baby diapers, feminine hygiene products, bottled water, etc. My workplace has an office down there that's still operating, but I don't have a way to get them anything. I'll check and let you know if they come up with something.

My step daughter live (lived?) in Rockport TX.  She evacuated and is safe!
From the various pictures she's been able to get, it appears that her house is gone. She's heading to Corpus Christ today. Hopefully we can get some more details.
The mayor of Rockport has announced that they are not expecting to have power for 2-3 weeks.  She works for the University of Texas marine science institute in Port Aransas.

Basically, she got out with the car, her dog, and a suitcase.
