ChrisM@Work - Friday, July 21, 2017 8:44 AMMany years ago I was asked by a neighbour to accompany their aging German Shepherd for her final visit to the vet. I didn't know the dog well but even then it was tough. For what it's worth, to those who need to know this, it really did seem like she was falling asleep in my arms.
I've done this several times, I feel the same way Lynn's daughter did, they need someone there with them as much as we would. It's not any easier or harder, just is what it is, and each pet unfortunately reacts differently to the drugs. I've had a cat who had inoperable cancer in his face, we did what we could until it was interfering with his ability to get nutrition, sweetest guy ever, but the drugs made him anxious and angry. What made the difference was having a vet we trusted, who reacted quickly to counteract that.
Hug your kids, hug your pets, automate your jobs so you can spend more time with them 🙂

Thom A - Tuesday, July 25, 2017 8:32 AMI name mine after Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. At that moment, while I live at my parents waiting for the flat sale to go through, I just have:
Ihy: Linux Desktop
Amun: Windows LaptopI do also have a Raspberry Pi there (Mandulis), but not currently plugged in. I have a old server in storage, which was called Sekhmet.
VMs, like Gail, I normally name something more purposeful, as they're not persistant. Although I did have a Windows VM on Ihy for a good 6 months, which I think I called either called Khonsu or Mafdet.
We named one of our cats after an Egyptian goddess, didn't work out too well. Poor Isis.

People today are so shallow. You mention Isis and all they think about is the group in the Middle East today. No sense of history or mythology. It is ridiculous.

I did actually have a box named Isis. I decided it would be prudent to change the name after "recent" events started. Felt that it could be considered Un-PC. That, didn't, however, stop the building I went to for my Fire Marshall training last year from (still) being called ISIS house.
Thom~
Excuse my typos and sometimes awful grammar. My fingers work faster than my brain does.

jasona.work - Tuesday, July 25, 2017 6:44 AMAh the fun of naming home servers...
Do you "copy" the names of servers from work (at least when you're setting up a home lab for testing purposes,) or go with your own naming conventions...
What about home servers that aren't being used for testing for work?
What about servers that you named, but that name no longer fits with what you think will be your naming convention going forward, but renaming will be a pain in the tuckus because of things that point to the existing name? Do you really want to mess around with DNS redirections and other work-arounds?Yeah, first-world problems, I know.
🙂
Plato, Aristotle, Ocho (the Octopus server), Atlas (Domain server), Uber (Ubuntu), JollyGreenGiant (main system with VMs)

Sometimes I wonder what people are doing with their years of experiencing developing SQL Server stored procedures... How did they get by without understanding how aggregate functions work?

Or the basics of set theory...and how that applies to querying SQL.

Most recent computer at home I built I named Prometheus, because it was such an upgrade from the old Core 2 Duo computer it replaced. My Linux box is just called harshserv.
