Last night we had to take our dog (15yrs old) on her final vet visit. When I get home it's time to start putting away her dog beds and such.I'm gonna miss that pupper-pooch.
<hugs>
Sorry to hear about that. We've got a 15 year old, and an old 12 year old. Suspect sometime the next couple years we'll have some rough days.
Sorry for your loss. My daughter went through that on Monday taking one of the cats to the vets (16 year old). She stayed with her until the end. She said it didn't feel right letting them take her into the back. She wanted Snowball to know she wasn't alone, someone who loved her was with her. I don't know if I could do that.
Yeah, it's tough. We stayed with the pooch until the anesthetic the vet gave her took full effect, we couldn't stay for the final bit. The wife was really broken up already over this, and I wasn't doing so well myself.
Keep checking our home security cam like I used to, to check on the dog, and every time realize she's not there and never will be again...
Thanks everyone, too, for the thoughts.

Wait... I thought aluminum amplified the signals? Too bad you can't find good tin-foil anymore.

This very long week is finally coming to a close. I'm headed out on vacation for the next week. I know I'll have a lot of catch-up reading on the thread when I get back. Everyone have a good week.

The tin foil keeps the Dark Ones from reading your mind!!!
And we must never speak of the Dark Ones!

Just had an e-mail from a colleague containing some good news ... and that's great.
But when all of the other addressees hit REPLY TO ALL and simply type Congratulations, it turns me into a grumpy git. I can feel a new Outlook rule coming on.

<Insert evil cackle here>
Boss made me his proxy for the next week while he's on vacay. DOUBLE-TIME FOR EVERYONE! Free beer & Champaign! 3 hour lunches!
Oh crap. No... He just made his proxy so I could do extra work, not give everyone a fun week. Bummed now.

Oh come now, you don't need to be the Boss' proxy to make double-time happen...

Ah the fun of naming home servers...
Do you "copy" the names of servers from work (at least when you're setting up a home lab for testing purposes,) or go with your own naming conventions...
What about home servers that aren't being used for testing for work?
What about servers that you named, but that name no longer fits with what you think will be your naming convention going forward, but renaming will be a pain in the tuckus because of things that point to the existing name? Do you really want to mess around with DNS redirections and other work-arounds?
Yeah, first-world problems, I know.

All my home machines have names out of Arthurian stories.
Desktop: Myrlin (and new desktops get the same name)
Server: Old server was Camelot, when I got a new server I needed to run at the same time it became Tintagel
Laptop: Excalibur
Other devices: As I feel in the same theme.
VMs generally get named for their purpose as they don't usually live long.

Name the servers from what I'm drinking at that moment with two digit iterative number at the end, LAARESXX for Lavazza Arabica Espresso XX, PEPOBOxx for Petrus Pomerol Bordeaux XX (Merlot) etc.
Workstations are abbreviated user names and an iterative number, nothing fancy.

I name mine after Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. At that moment, while I live at my parents waiting for the flat sale to go through, I just have:
Ihy: Linux Desktop
Amun: Windows Laptop
I do also have a Raspberry Pi there (Mandulis), but not currently plugged in. I have a old server in storage, which was called Sekhmet.
VMs, like Gail, I normally name something more purposeful, as they're not persistant. Although I did have a Windows VM on Ihy for a good 6 months, which I think I called either called Khonsu or Mafdet.
