Are the posted questions getting worse?

So, in other news and because somebody is too quiet on the topic.

    This happened:

    HOLY ****!

Congrats! I didn't see that. About time you got it all together... HA! Put that down. You can't hit me. I'll tell Jenn!

It should be a huge relief for a few of us in that regard. No more physical abuse from this guy taking out his frustration on us. Sheesh.

Surprised it's taken this long. Well done Wayne!

A new low...  a new user, rather than posting a topic on one of the boards here, sent me a T-SQL question via PM...

    *sigh*

Just today to get through before SQLBits.  Anyone else from here going to be there?

Not this year, got enough new stuff on my plate for a few months: getting to grips with configuring and troubleshooting transactional replication.
It's new to me, I'm a dev. One of the reasons I signed up as a permy with this company - the ample opportunities to learn (and own) aspects of SQL Server which I wouldn't normally get close to.

Too bad Chris, seeing as I've managed to not meet up with you when I've popped into London!
    have fun with replication

    Rodders...

We'll get those beers in one day Rodders, probably with the Icelandic reprobate in tow. I look forward to it πŸ™‚

    Haha, indeed...
Talking of, he's being very quiet at the moment πŸ˜€

    Rodders...

Trying desperately to make the time for this to happen, up to my neck at the moment.
    😎

Well then, sorry to disturb you, Keep calm and Carry On, sir!

    Rodders...

No worries, looking forward to it.

  • Anyone else find it really frustrating when someone (with like <=5 points) posts an incomplete question, but you think "Yeah, I think I know what they want, but need a little clarification", and then you, or someone else has asks for it. Then, 48 hours later, although people have guessed, the OP never comes back... I mean, they probably went to Stack Overflow, and any other support site they could find, but some do peak my interest and other peoples insights are great for learning.

It's like reading a book, getting half way through and finding out the rest of the pages are blank. >_<

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

Now that I'm officially unemployed, I finally got around to downloading SQL 2016 developer edition to play around with.  Right now, the two most frustrating things are that they changed the syntax for regex search and replace (without changing the documentation to match) and I no longer have RedGate SQL Prompt.

    Drew

I've heard so many nice things about RedGate SQL Prompt that I'm afraid of asking for it to avoid losing it when changing jobs and fall into depression.

I am no longer able to type T-SQL without it.

Hmmm, not sure if I'd use that as a marketing slogan.
"SQL Prompt, the tool that makes you forget your basic skills"

"SQL Prompt, the tool so awesome it replaces your knowledge of T-SQL with bigger, better and more knowledge of T-SQL"

We'll just have to run a product warning too, something like what comes with Happy Fun Ball.
"SQL Prompt can cause permanent memory loss. Do not taunt SQL Prompt. If SQL Prompt begins to whine and emit smoke, seek shelter immediately..."

You jest, but having moved back to a coding position and not being allowed to use SQLPrompt for whatever reason, I just spent a couple hours tinkering with a stored procedure to recreate the ease of 'ssf', and then expanding the asterisk. Only to realize belatedly (after I got it working of course) that I could just right-click in Object Explorer, SELECT to another query window and copy/paste instead of feeding in servername/dbname/schema/table as parameters. Oh well, practiced my dynamic SQL for a bit, I guess.

can't use SSMSToolspack either, so I'm stuck with IntelligibleSense and Snippet Manager in SSMS for now.

I had SQL Prompt on my 2014 installation but had to re-install SQL Prompt after installing SSMS for 2016 and it was all fine.

I had it through my former employer, not on my personal computer.  Buying a license for personal use isn't in my current budget.

    Drew

SSMS toolspack, not the same, but awesome all the same

Wasn't a particular topic, just that I seem to be noticing it more lately (maybe I hadn't been observant enough). Was browsing a couple of the forums and reading up on the answers and noticed a couple of examples, and just reminded me.
